Calculating Unit Supply Needs???

Post by treespider »

For design purposes....how does one calculate the supply needed for a unit with a given strength?

IE How much supply does a Chinese corps consume on a given day.

I imagine its in the manual, but I need to take a break from research for at least five minutes...

I created a one a squad corps - supplies required = 1

I looked at another corps and determined 1 supply pt. is required for each squad, gun, support etc. or 1/2 supply pt. for each disabled squad, gun etc.

I cannot find it, but I have seen it listed that the daily requirement for a unit is the "number listed" for required supply divided by 25= per day tons required. I have no idea why they pick 25 and not 30 day...like a normal month

The basic supply requirement is one for each squad or other device unit. However, the requirement and use on any given day is dynamic and influenced by numerous finite and random modifiers. The game seems to adjust the "requirement" as though it is extrapolating into the future what we have done in the past much like the average monthly billing that many energy providers offer to their consumers, but the game can't even predict what the actual usage will be even if the unit remains in a vacuum because of the random influences. At best, we could create an abstract model to predict supply use and requirements and we would be close to accurate most of the time like the weather man.

A LCU bsasic supply requirement comes down to 1 x number of non-disabled device/squads plus 0.5 x number of disabled device/squads.

If this is the games supply logic: 1 normal squad (avg 13 men) needs 2000 lbs per day, or 153 lbs per man per day, I think this is to high.
If you reference the book, "the Sinews of War, by James Houston...(pg 495), he writes that average man in the Pacific required 67.4 lbs per day (for both combat and non combat duty, average for the war). In Europe that average was 66.8 lbs per man.
So now back to that Normal Squad of 13 men x 67.4 lbs = 876 / 2000 = .43 tons per squad. The games numbers are a bit high.
The Japanese used an average of 54.7 lbs per day per man or, .36 tons per day.

Just FYI...but hey I just study Logistics for a living and this is just a game!
