Attack sequencing and modifiers question

Post by pmiranda »

- Can a land unit damaged/destroyed by air or naval support still fire in land-land combat, or does the +1/+2 modifier to evasion rating only apply for units damaged/destroyed by long-range units in the same step (i.e. artillery during the land-land step)
- Does the -1 modifer for being previously fired upon mean that units facing several enemies not only get attacked twice (or more), but the second and subsequent shots get a bonus?

I dont know the answer to the first one - but the answer to the second one is definitely yes. That is a vital part of the tactics you use playing WaW infact.

I may be wrong and someone might correct this - but from experience it seems that units totally destroyed in a previous step/phase of the same combat will not fire when they would normally get the chance. Thus, a ground unit destroyed by air would not fire in the ground combat phase. However, if the unit is only damaged it will still participate and fire (with a penalty) and be fired upon.

I'm trying to find out by checking combat results in my game. What I could observe so far:
1. Artillery destroyed by air units doesn't get to fire at all.

Manual, Section 8.5.5, page 64,

"Combat is resolved in this order:

1. Air to Air
2. Air to Ground
[..snip..]
7. Land versus Land"

Second sentence in the following paragraph;

"Units that are damaged or destroyed in one phase, do not progress to the next phase" - I take it this means that ART getting hit by aircraft in phase 2 above would indeed not make it to phase 7.

This is all assuming that your point is that ART wont fire in the same combat if it were hit by aircraft. If it were ground struck by aircraft before any declared land combat, it would be removed from the board as soon as that ground strike mission is over, and before any land combat vs. that area at all took place.
