OT: What's Your Favorite Hot Dog Toppings?

Post by KG Erwin »

Being a West Virginian, ordering "the works" on a hot dog will get you diced onions, spicy chili, mustard, ketchup and cole slaw. The cole slaw variant is something that is unique to this part of the US. It is our substitute for relish, and it is quite tasty.

What's the regional favorites, guys?

Yeah, it is. Am I making you hungry? Forget the pizza on a Saturday night--there's nothing like having a dog and a beer. Yum! [;)]

"Nobody, but NOBODY puts ketchup on a Hot Dog"

- Harry Callahan

They call them Weiners or Franks and often "Soggies" up here, have mustard based pickle relish that is a staple, with diced onions, and other stuff. The "other stuff" varies widely - For the East PRovidence variation use Linguisa (ling-WEES'-er) wand Chourico (Sure-REES'-a) spicy portuguese suasages) instead of hamburger in the below

The Best around here is New York System Weiners http://riroads.com/archive/weiners.htm

New York System Weiner Recipe http://pagesintime.com/ri/

1 lb. hamburger
3 Tbs. margarine
1 small onion, chopped
1 Tbs. garlic powder
1 1/2 Tbs. chili powder
1 1/2 Tbs. allspice
1 Tbs. salt
1 pinch black pepper
1 Cup water
Lightly brown half of the chopped onion in butter. Add hamburger and stir until the hamburger loosens into small pieces. Add rest of spices. Simmer on very low heat for at least 2 hours.

(veb's note - this stuff is basically what they use instead of chili as the "meesy topping" and call it "heavy sauce" teh full treatment is ordered as "(Gimme X hots - all the way")

Now it's time to build the weiner. The sequence is important!

Put cooked weiner in bun.
Put mustard on weiner.
Put sauce on mustard.
Put raw chopped onions on mustard.
Sprinkle celery salt on top of onions.

In the UK hot dogs only come with onions and Ketchup. Mind you I don't touch em as they are made of minced pig penis, bollocks and ears etc.

It's not a pork thing, it's a hot dog (sausage) thing, even for the chicken ones .... it's chicken penis, bollocks, ears etc....

I dont want a pigs Co*k in my mouth even if it is minced!!!

That reminds me of the punch line to a really bad joke -- "I've already had twelve beers and I STILL can't get the taste out!"

Never mind. [8|]

Around here it's mustard, ketchup, two kinds of diced onions (raw and fried), and sliced, pickled cucumbers.

Blimey - what was the joke?

Hot Dogs

Two brothers have a lifelong dream to immigrate to America. They work hard and save their money. After many years, they have saved enough money and finally emigrate into New York.

Before they begin building their new lives in America, they decide to see some of the famous places they dreamed of for so long; the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, the Rockettes, and others. Eventually, they make their way to Coney Island.

As they stroll down the beach, taking in all the newness of America, they see a very large billboard that reads: "HOT DOGS," with a big arrow pointing down to a little hot dog stand. Being hungry and seeing that having an American hot dog would be something new, they decide to try one. So they order two hot dogs and sit on a nearby bench to enjoy another piece of Americana.

The first brother sets his hot dog in his lap, unfolds the paper wrapper, looks at his hot dog for a moment, and suddenly wraps it back up.

He then turns to his brother and says, "What part of the dog did you get?"

Like my wife the marketeer jokes - the only difference between Haggis and Hot dogs is packaging and marketing...

Haggis is a far superiour food,

The haggis only comes out from its burrow on the 12th of November, but if not sunny the 13th up until the 22nd otherwise it gives up and pisses off to ibiza.

The only task of the Haggis is to lay it's thousands of eggs into the mouths of sleeping scots ( this is the annual date of the Celtic Vs Rangers, no regulation heather gathering ritual). In the aftermath thousands of Scots are gently sleeping after snorting far too much heather. Then the horibly bloated tartan wearing and farting mama haggis crawls up and the eggs are laid in the nostrils of the sleeping Scot ( if you don't belive me check out Discovery channel - nice three part Doc by R. Lionheart.)

The Haggis shooting season is the 12th to the 15th.

See You there - I bagged 15 Haggis and 4 Scots last time...

Wey Hey!!
