Safe Port

Post by Freddy Fudpucker »

So what level of port and circumstances comstitues a safe port in terms of getting a badly damaged ship to safety?

I currently have badly damaged AKs disbanded at Akyab. It is a level 4 port with 60k+ supplies and nearly 1,700 support but my disbanded ships continue to accrue floatation damage each day and then sink disbanded in the port.

Unfortunately, the nearest large port (size 9) is Chandpur, 5 days sail at one hex a day. There's no way my AK's will make it.

As the allies, a level 4 port SHOULD be sufficient for warships. Transports might need a level 5. Putting a Naval HQ, or ANY Hq into akyab might just do the trick....

Chandpur is only 2.5 days away as your ships will make at least one hex per phase not per turn. So I would go for it but in other areas where bigger ports are farther away I consider a size 4 port acceptable for putting out fires and pumping out water.

How could a HQ other than naval help? AFAIK neither supplies nor support are needed for ship repairs.

Concur. I had some badly damaged allied AK stuck at Port Moresby. They continued to take on water until the port size upgraded from 4 to 5. At that pont the flooding started to go down.

In my game I had a major surface action in the Coral Sea against the Japanese and I had a lot of capital ships damaged. The USS San Francisco had system and float damage in the 80s and I put her in the nearest port I had at the time wich was only size 3 but, for some reason, the float damage went down and I was eventually able to send her to a shipyard to major repair.

I've done the same thing with a few AKs that weren't nearly as damaged and lost them though.
