The greatest testimony to SPWaW

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

The greatest testimony to SPWaW

Post by generalrichmond »

SPWaW is special - how special?

Consider this board and how many Europeans and Americans (and maybe, probably others) are all interested in this game. I've never seen a game have this kind of impact or ability to generate involvement from so many areas around the globe.

I think it's cool. Maybe because it encompasses the greatest warring conflict ever and so many of the nations were involved? Whatever, it just shows the magnitude of greatness that SPWaW has achieved.

Actually wargameing has been a source of entertainment for a big number of persons worldwide since a lot, lot of time, and for WW2 wargameing fanatics, SPWAW gives them all what this persons would want in a tactical wargameing.

I think for me the testomony of this game is that, if you read most of the threads you will see people discussing most game problems in real life terms, for example the discussion on the use of recon units.
A hex/turn based game will always have artificial bounderies, but for me SPWaW, has made these bounderies much less obtrusive, and makes you think more about what you would do for real rather then what the game engine will let you get away with!
In times of war we see the worst that man has to offer. But we also see the best that man has to offer.
