To check out the editors for the game, I started playing around with a concept for a hypothetical scenario. I have it as a version 0.0000001 or something, and is testing it AI vs AI right now

-Good luck, seems to be a great project. Will you include antiship Soviet aircraft like torpedo bomber versions of Il-4 and Il-2? What about a Japanese version of the Ju-88G (to be used against night allied raids)? And how will you conciliate the absence of Barbarossa with increase cooperation between Axis nations? Will the Soviets become inactive in the West until 1945? How will post 1942 events impact the game?
RE: Opinions wanted...
just a thought....if the French had surrendered and their fleet....and the Axis could get the Richelieu all the way to Japan.....where is the Italian Fleet? You mention additional cooperation between the Axis powers....would this mean that the Germans sent perhaps a pocket battleship to the pacific? Additional U-boats have made their way into the indian ocean?
Just a thought.....always trying to get the germans involved.
Ohh would be nice to see a FW-190 or ME-109. Perhaps the Graf Zepplin could make an appearance...okay..now I am talkin crazy

You silly Canadian...[:D] BTW, would the British have loaned the Soviets a battleship if things were going that badly for them?

[;)] Well, maybe not, but my thinking was that I had already decided that the Royal Sovereign was not going to be available to the British, but then I found out that she was loaned out in the real war, and though, fun idea, why not bring her back, but to Russia.... Hmm, I´m rambling here..... Have to spend some time with a nice Gin & Tonic when the weekend comes and figure a good story
As for the other ideas posted, some are along what I have been thinking about, and I´d like a few crazy ideas, most certainly to spice up the Japanese forces near the end of the war. I mean, sheer force from the allies will be decisive, so why not let the Jap player have some fun while being blown to pieces [;)]
I´ll definately look into Il-2 & 4 suggestion, and either to bring some German aircraft to Japan, or alternatively let a few Japanese planes take features from German planes when upgrading
Italian fleet and some special appearances from the German ships and U-boats would also be fun. Any more French ships perhaps? Maybe even some French renegade troops fighting for the Axis from some remote base?
Keep the ideas and comments coming! It´s half the fun of playing around with scenario editors

Now heres a realy wild idea Germany defeats Russia and takes over russian ports and air
you could introduce a lot of german units into game this way [:D][:D]

Well, they transported a few U-Boats by rail to the Black Sea. Why not the Admiral Scheer?[:D]

[8D] That´s a nice pitch that would really change things. Maybe as a second scenario based on this one?

no...not the Scheer....the Graf Spee....assume she did not turn back to the South Atlantic and instead went further into the Indian Ocean all the way around to Tokyo and stayed in Japan until the outbreak of hostilities.

-I think you should clarify better that question of USSR, as it influences the game. If you have a neutral USSR (vs Germany) then the Soviet territory could be used to transfer resources and equipment from Germany to Japan. Of course it complicates the rules for Soviet activation. The idea of a low intensity Barbarossa seems to be unlikely to me, as it is not wise to start a partial war against a strong nation, it will become a total war sooner or later. I personally would suggest a neutral USSR that should be activated (a house rule forces the Japanese player to attack them in, say, early 1943). To simulate then the loss of Soviet resources, you could place a Soviet harbor under Japanese control at game start. This place would generate some supply/fuel, but must not be garrisoned or attacked by allies. Once the Soviets are activated, they simply take the harbor (and the Japanese cannot interfere until it´s taken).

If we forget all the political and military events that must have happened differently for this scenario to have actually developed in the real war, this is what I´d like to achieve:
- Having the Soviets active from the start force the Japanese player to pay attention to the north in order to avoid serious attacks, or even invasion, of the Home Islands
- To make up for the added Soviet forces, the Chinese are weakened as are the British in the west
- The Australians and New Zealanders are strengthened to somewhat balance the weaker British
- The US is weakened early on and maybe even slightly stronger later on, but later than in the stock game
Why would I do this? The biggest driver for me is to create a different type of game compared to the stock game, and I hope this scenario may create some different decisions from both sides
This being said, I realise the probability of a low-intensity Barabarossa is, well, unlikely is being kind, impossible is a better word. On the other hand, the main thing for me is not to create a probable scenario, but a different one
I guess a neutral Soviet would be nice, but given the constraints in what can be edited it´s only possible with house rules just as you say, and being a newbie, I find it´s hard enough to cope with the learning curve for the "real" rules - On the other hand, once I get the thing ready enough for a release, I would be delighted to see others make their version of it

RE: Opinions wanted...
Whether or not the scenario is "impossible" is completely irrelevant; that's why it's called alternate history. I say press on.

ya know....I love this idea....I really do...
But how do you change the USSR into an ally of Japan? Is it possible to create new nations?
