Gamey yugoslavian invasion

Post by pmiranda »

Currently, you can send a lone aircraft and attack Yugoslavia during the first turn, which unfreezes Bulgaria, Rumania and Hungary, which can in turn make the "real" attack and overrun Yugoslavia.
From an historical perspective, this sounds quite absurd to me.
Is it intended, or was the idea to unfreeze Yugoslavia the TURN after it was attacked?

It is intended, and is a standard 1rst turn move.

As far as I know, historically the Germans had to tackle Yugoslavia alone...

I believe that Hungarian and Italian forces were part of it too - and that quite a few German forces were staged in Bulgaria for the operation. I am far from an expert on these matters though.

I actually like to take it on turn 2. As you have a better chance of avoiding loses. On turn two you can use some artillery and infantry to get the job done. Getting the 2 resources on turn 1 really doesn't pay if you lose several militia gaining them.

You dont get extra resources by taking Yugoslavia.

Well they change from free trade resources to direct ones don't they? And then you are garanteed 2 per turn right? Rather than half.

You gain 2 from free trade too from Yugoslavia. Free trade confused the hell out of me too - so I asked some questions and ran some tests a while back. Basically, you have to note that you get half the resource pool - not half the printed number of resources. I do believe that means you get two from Yugoslavia unless the WA or Russia gets a link to them too. I cannot verify this presently though.

Well I’d definitely want to know for sure. Anyway I think this reinforces my reasons for postponing taking Yugo until turn 2. If the payoff is smaller than I thought, I certainly would not want to play a high price to take it.

I like to take it the first turn, so I have the militia from the unfrozen territories to use as garrisons (east france, east prussia, west poland) on the 2nd turn.

I like it when the AI attacks it and fails then abandons Romania and Bulgaria. My fully equipped WA Yugos go right in and set up camp for the duration. It's kind of neat to have a land link to the USSR on turn 1 for lend lease. Lets you catch up on the ASW before exposing your transports plus it takes all those factories and resources away!

Um, won't the Yugos be without supply and thus unable to advance?

Hmm, Just read an article about Yugoslavia there:
http://panzers2.wargamer.com/yugoslavia.html

It looks like I need to take a refresher history course! [;)]

Quote: At the beginning of April 1941, troops from Italy, Bulgaria, and Hungary, supported by hundreds of thousands of German Wehrmacht and SS troops, invaded the loose confederation of nations known as Yugoslavia.
