Popup Windows Problem

Post by Boatshoe »

Hi, My W@W game will show a blank grey window briefly at certain events, like when I take Western France. I see on the back of the box there is a newspaper that says "Paris Falls!"

I have Windows Media Player 10, and a Nvidia FX5700 with the most current drivers.

Does anyone have a solution to this little problem?? [&:]

Thanks!

Are you per chance using Win2000? I heard some people have trouble with the video parts of WaW under Win2k.

No, I'm running Windows XP, and that should be fully updated as well. SP2 I think.

Could you try viewing the ..\dat\video\paris_falls.wmv file by double clicking on it?

Just to check if its a WaW problem or a Windows problem with viewing these kinds of files.

Also, do you see the movies/logos when the game loads?

Sorry, I've been a little busy to check it, but thanks for the help. I did look, and I could view the videos by directly accessing them with Windows Media PLayer. They all had the little WMV icons next to them, so I assume that the extention was connected with the Windows Media PLayer....

However. As of right now, the whole point is moot, as I have had 2 HD blow up on me in the last 2 days, and that means lots of reinstalling, and it also means I won't get to play W@W for a while.

Let me know if you have any other ideas though. Thanks!

Ouch, that sounds nasty.

I am not a tech though - just a player like yourself so you may need the help of one of Matrix's official techs if reinstalling does not help.

Did you see the intro movies when loading the game though (just trying to narrow the problem down)?

In the "Bug List as of July 6, 2005" i found following:

BG0022 [2] Videos - Videos reported to not work on Windows 2000 system.

Or was it you who reported this? *g*

EDIT: Argh, dont have seen you use XP. Shame on me!

Well, I have my PC up and running, with basically just Win XP (with a bagazillion updates) Media Player, Direct X, Battlefield 2, and W@W. Now the Videos work! Go figure. My best guess is some other video player program was interfering with the game.

It only cost me a Hard Drive and 30GB of lost data! [:'(] (I salvaged HD #2 with partial data recovery)

Anyway, thanks for the help and suggestions. I appreciate it.
