Fans,

And make sure you have them blowing in the directions you want them to. I turned around the fan on my power supply as it was blowing INTO the casing. With a second fan down at the front bottom, it was not assisting with the cooling of the case.

A properly designed case goes a long way. I use a Li Lian Aluminum case and 6 fans. 2 at the front blowing in over the
hard drives, one at the back( large ) sucking air out of the case, the power supply fan also sucking air out, one on top sucking air out from the memory area and CD drives, and one slot fan right next to my video card. I am running 30 case and 49 cpu temps right now.

Remember that too many fans can be counterproductive, they can cause turbulance inside the case. The important factor is keeping a good airflow through your system. I don't really like the idea of having a fan on the side of the case, it disrupts airflow.

One or two fans in the front sucking air in, and one or two in the back exhausting hot air out is a simple effective plan. If you feel you need more because your temps are too high( case temps above 30-35c and cpu temps above 55-60c under load) be sure your "rat's nest" of power supply wires is neatly tied off and tucked away, or perhaps replace your hard drive/cd drive ribbon cables with round cables. Clean your screens once in a while, clean/replace your fans. A dirty fan is worse than no fan. Apply a thermal paste between your cpu and heatsink. A good brand to look for is Arctic Silver.

Don't leave your comouter case sitting on a thick carpet or have books/magazines/clutter piled on top of it or obstructing the air intakes. Simple common sense can get you a long ways to cooler case and cpu temps. Good luck folks. [:)]

Watercooling. [;)]
With a few 120mm slow & silent fans to cool things around HDDs, PSU, and Chipset.

One of those table top fans blowing towards your air opening...........anything that will circulate some 'cool' air around your processor/fan opening and like Gem said make sure your case isnt sitting in or on a place where the airflow is restricted.

Ive recently changed my old case to a larger one and have got rid of the overheating problems i had before. There is more space for the air to circulate around, especially as the size of graphics cards these days dont help [:D] Before i upgraded the case the fan in the PC used to be louder than planes landing at Glasgow Airport and was on constantly, especially when playing WitP.

Yep, watercooling it's the best.
Not only you keep every possible CPU cold, you also eliminate the noise [8D]

Right-on. Noise was the prime reason I went liquidifed. [8D]

There are more than few easy-fit and already assembled WC kits, and some of them are not that expensive anymore. Thermaltake, CoolRiver and Asetek are some that make them. Sure, they are not top-notch cooling, but beats aircooling hands down noise wise.

I have never used water cooling because I don't overclock, Air cooling is adequate under normal circumstances. Now self-contained air conditioning is another alternative and is alot safer. I sometimes have a recurring nightmare that my newly water-cooled rig sprung a leak...

self contained AC?

u mean putting a little AC in ther?

that would work

except then thers the problem of condensation...
