Most Confusing battle I have ever seen

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Most Confusing battle I have ever seen

Post by Hard Sarge »

I am France, I am at war with Poland, seeing that I own Posen, and only have a garrison, and a single Inf Div to guard my Depot, and the Poles have a lot of troops in Warsaw, but I was in Kracow, I decided to head back to Posen, then drop down into Warsaw and see what kind of fight I could find

starts off with a Polish Div headed into Kracow, and I slaughter them, then the Poles move into Posen, but my troops are delayed, and the battle begins

226,000 Poles and Turks, vs 10,000 French and 105,000 Prussians !

which is interesting, as the Turks are my Allies, but I am locked out of fighting Prussia by treaty, the Prussians were fighting the Russian, but not sure if they are at war with Poland

as soon as the battle starts, I cry out for help and my 136,000 man army rushes to my aid

by the time my troops show up and I start to get close to the battle, night falls, lots of fighting has been going on, but I am too far away to see any of it

just as I start to form up my troops, on a hill and in the woods, dawn breaks, and brings with it a heavy fog !!!!!

the fog last for about 4 hours, I get some pot shots in, but so do the Poles, half my attacks are blocked by Turkish troops, oh what a mess

then I start running into Prussian Troops and they hamper me even more

finally I tell the AI to give it a go, and away my troop go, looking for any Pole they can find

soon, they find the bad guys and hammer them into the ground, and my side wins !

I take 7 Polish Divs as POWs

right after the battle, Prussia, surrenders to Russia, and then Russia surrenders to me

oh what a mess

but it was fun

LOL next month was ever worse, still trying to get down to Warsaw, but the Poles come back again, along with the Turks

this time around it is 222,000 Poles and Prussians, vs 277,000 Turks and French

all in all it started out well, I move between the Turks and the Prussians to get to the Poles, start to take a toll on the Poles, when the Prussians start to fire on me !, but, I can not return fire on them ! (other then the units that are attacked fire back)

very soon, it sort breaks down into I pick on the Poles and the Prussians pick on who ever is closest to them, I give the battle over to the AI, and soon, we clobber the Prussians (strange, looked like the AI could attack them, but I could not)

end of the month, I am still at peace with Prussia, may of been FOW or a glich

Confusing seems to be too small a word for it...

Some of the small battles can be a blast too. I had
a French army of about 60,000 jumped by a Russian army
of 100,000 and I had no supply train and we started
real close to each other. I pushed my two cav units
forward and forced his lead inf units into square and
used my two inf div and art div as an anchor and fought
a delaying action back to a town with rivers on both
sides. rained for awhile and dark helped me to work
my way back. Was able to rotate units back and forth
thru the town building up supply and finally forced the
Russians to reteat from the battle. Heck of alot of
fun!

Yeah - it is wild when you end up in a battle where not everyone on one side is at war with everyone on the other.

I think Prussia must have been at war with Turkey and Poland, so you get (France v Poland) and (Prussia v Turkey and Poland) - that correctly ends up at (France and Prussia v Turkey and Poland), which is what you reported.

During the battle, you should have found that French troops could not fire on the Turks or Prussians, but you could resupply or allocate leaders to Turkish units if you wished (because they were your allied), and possibly to the Prussians since thy were on your side in the battle! Did you notice?

Did you take any fire from the Turks during the battle? Obviously you shouldn't have (the precise bug that was fixed was that AI controlled opposing forces could fire upon player forces even though not at war, while player forces could not fire on those same AI forces!) At that time we didn't have a save in detailed battle, so I couldn't save the scenario for retesting... Did you keep a save of the battle?

ahhhh
the bad part is I did have a save of it, but it got overwritten

the first battle was a nice clean action, just couldnt see what was going on

the 2nd battle, the Prussians were firing on anybody they could reach, I could not target them, but once I turned it over to the AI , it could, my battle line of Guns made them learn the error of there ways

should of thought to double save that battle, as it was looking wrong(hassle was it was about time for the treaty to wear out, so figured they had decided to go to war with me)
