Question about a pitcher being X pitches over limit

Post by rjolley »

How is this determined? If a pitcher is 1 pitch over his limit, according to the PSPNcast, then the next count shown is 3-0, will that pitch put him 5 pitches over the limit, or 2? I think the game will say 2, but it should be 5, if my count is correct.

I believe PS internally plays out the game pitch by pitch, but shows us just the result. Is this correct? If the game is played pitch by pitch, some of the display issues dealing with counts may have to do with an accidental reset of the count.

I'm pretty sure this works. I've watched a few hundred games over the years and I've never noticed that it doesn't. If you are 10 pitches over the limit and it's 2-2 and the ball is put in play it moves to 15 pitches over limit.

I'll watch a few more games and see if I see it again. I may have been dreaming the issue last time, or maybe the display issue was with the count on a stolen base. I think there was a stolen base along with the over the limit message.
