Flag Type Stars and Stripes, two soldiers in an american outfit anybody else here on the board can identify much better than me, something what might be a LCM in the background, another ship far away I bet even you don't know and a tracked vehicle on the right.
Not to forget the soil and some weed and roots.

Might actually be not staged, considering how low the photographer is on the ground [:'(]

Two guys confused as to the location of Mt. Surabachi. [:'(]

From the little scoop-like projections on the track of the foreground vehicle, it is probably an LVT rather than a Sherman or Stuart.

The chappies have the look on the their faces of either:

a.) there's some kitchen sinks coming towards us

b.) why are they running at us with swords

The guy on our right looks like Corp. Klinger (of MASH fame). The guy on the left must be Navy as he seems to be wearing a life jacket. Maybe a coxswain from a landing craft?

Definately LVTs. Obviously not under much enemy fire or the two LVTs wouldn't be bobbing around off the beach checking out the surf [:D]

It was the first flag on Guam. It was a common practice to show the colors like that. It was an honor to do it...if you fell, someone would pick up the colors and cotinue where you fell.
