Recon - Battan base

Post by pad152 »

Any reason why recon won't work [&:] on Battan base in the Philippines?

No matter how many recon flights, the only info I get is the number of land units, and not the number of troops. Playing Japan I've seen this in every game and every version of Witp but never seen anyone else bring this up.

I've noticed the same thing with Truk. (playing as allies.)

Using Catalinas and such?...any aircraft that is not an actual recon plane will produce sustandard recon.
There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion.

In the case of Truk, even F-5A's. I tried everything and finally concluded there's some quirk.

They don't literally cloak of course. It must just mean they're trained to conceal numbers.
Pft,damn the aircraft, full speed ahead....WAIT!....

I don't think that it is related to certain bases. It seems (it's a unconfirmed theory till now) that recon plane squadrons do not fly against bases that have heavy CAP (or just a high "air strength" value?) until they've reached a certain amount of average experience (seems not to be morale related). These groups seem to fly before (look at their fatigue) but do not take recon photos of the base they were ordered to fly.

Dont think so. I my PBEM(I play for Japanese) game I continued to recon Battan(28 enemy units there and no a/c) for like 1month but I didnt get any info except for number of units in the hex. Looks like a bug for me.

I had bombed Truk 'into the stone age' and had complete air superiority. Flak might still have been an issue, but the bombers did fine at lower altitudes by then. The recon planes flew at 20,000.

There is no enemy cap at the Battan base, I'm using Recon aircraft and Recon does not work at this base!! Recon aircraft fly with bombers and without. I simply want to know the number of troops before I attack this base. I've looked at the data in database with different editors and don't see any anything. There is something real funky with certian bases (ownership, recon, enemy airgroups showing up, etc, etc.). It sometimes seems there is one set of data in the database and another set buried somewhere in the code for bases.
