Big Lag

Post by excelsior »

I just started playing witp (again) on a new computer. Whenever I try clicking on anything or scrolling the map there is a huge lag. My basic computer specs. are : amd 3800 cpu, audigy 2zs soundcard, and a 6800 ultra (512MB) video card. I tried the old trick of renaming sound in the witp directory to nosound , but that didnt work either. Help.

i changed the map scroll settings to 1, then to 0. The lag also applies to when I click onto anything, including giving commands to my units and things like that. ALSO, what do you mean by "IIRC" in your reply?

If I Remember Correctly

See you other thread for some questions (RAM? OS? Other programs running?).

This is an old problem (look through past year or so of the forum) for which there is no known solution or diagnosis. It does not seem to be related to CPU speed or RAM size so is probably a "driver problem".

I suffer from it myself. Turning off hardware acceleration on my graphics card (GeForce MX200) solves the slow map scrolling issue but not the "general lag" issue.

well, i reinstalled everything, up to the 1.6 patch. At first all orders given in pearl harbor go fine and fast, but when i start giving orders to bases in the phillipines or such, it slows down hugely only when i access a DIFFERENT unit, not when i give it orders. Scrolling on the map then also goes very slowly. I also updated my video drivers to the latest, 77.77 from nvidia.

[:'(]well, the thing that fixed it was that i had to shut off the hexside details. That is not fair. I have the hugest video card (512 MB), 2 gigs of ram, and an amd 64 3800 cpu. It worked sort of well on my other computer, which was a 733 megahertz computer. The map without the hexsides does look very refreshing though. No lag when accessing different units either. Why is that? Anyway, it works now, its just not as astheticly pleasing now.

I can't explain it either. My computer works the same as yours.
No hexes or details, and it's super fast when scrolling.

I only use the F6 toggle when I'm really counting hexes.
Then I toggle it off before I move to another location.

That is bizarre, but well done for sort of fixing it.

I don't think the executable will even try and use most of that memory you have. It manages it's own virtual memory scheme for the map bitmaps.

Just figured out the workaround.[;)]
