How to setup TCP/IP Multiplayer game ?

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

How to setup TCP/IP Multiplayer game ?

Post by KarlXII »

Hi all!

Sorry if this question don´t belong in this thread but we are two players that want to setup a multiplayer game over tcp/ip and we don´t get it to work. We´re both using Windows XP

This is how we do:

1) Turn off all firewalls (for us Norton Internet Security 2005), one of us have a broadband router but I leave it as is.
2) Start the game "Remote game", I choose to be the host
3) Get to the host screen, waiting for other player
4) Other player selects "Remote game" and chooses TCP/IP over Directplay.
5) Other player enters my IP adress (as told by ipconfig in DOS)
Nothing happens!!!
I get the error in windows stating "dperr_invalidparams" and that´s about it. Even if we allow the program to search it doesn´t find the server.

What are we doing wrong ? Should we connect a session with DirectPlay in dxdiag ? We have done that through TCP/IP (Port 80) and can chat to each other but the session does not show in the game.

I am new to this with multiplayer setup so I don´t know how DirectPlay should be used and configured.

I am grateful for all help on how to set up a TCP/IP game.

Regards,
Karl XII

what´s you version of update? or you like host give you partner an address ip wrong, check in you start; run, write cmd and compare with you ip connection or some partner doesn´t turn off your firewall. this is very rare. I don´t have that problem when I play TCPIP.

Since CoG uses a slightly older version of DirectPlay, I find it tends to want every possible advantage in getting the connection setup. When we've done TCP/IP games, we've had to have the host put their computer in their router's "DMZ" (keeping the windows firewall on is fine, as long as it's set to allow the CoG executable, which shows up as "plato" as an exception). The client(s) has to also unblock it in the firewall, but otherwise should be fine. Turning off all other firewalls is advisable, but I'd keep the Windows one enabled as it's a good idea to have one up and it doesn't seem to interfere as long as CoG is set as unblocked.
