Generally speaking, no. For housekeeping duties (i.e., moving threads to proper sub-forums), yes.

Better to have a moderator then not. All of us at times are tempted and may post inappropriate material, either because we were baited or cause we had a bad day. Better safe than sorry.

I would expect that from you, considering that the Depot has a dozen or so "moderators" for FAR fewer members than this forum has.

Is it necessity, or a private clique? Hmmm.

Its not the quantity its the QUALITY.

Really gunny. This the type of stuff that just shows that yes this site may need a moderator as long it is not YOU.

I dont agree with Gunny's politics ( he has if I recall right, posted at madcows?) but generally he does not appear to abuse moderator powers here.

Take personal grudges else where.

Gunny,

The Depot has alot of moderators to serve its members. We have hundreds of downloads that constantly need tended too, the Academy, the MilHis forum areas, the OOB Project, The Campaign, etc (we average 9 new threads and over 85 new posts per day)...

This place has few areas. Everyone behaves more or less civil. Mogami was able to come over and police a complaint when he was needed.

In all honesty, when you asked about a mod being posted here, I assumed you were lobbying for it. After the last time (which you yourself admitted was a bad idea) of edited posts and heavy-handedness, I voted no. If you did not want peoples honest opinions, or were going to take cheap shots at a site that is not even involved in this discussion, why did you ask?

As a moderator at the Depot I can speak for myself...
My main function is to help out members who need help finding answers or getting files..etc etc...and we all have our particluar areas to offer our support in.
I do not consider myself an overseer, looking to find the guy whose opinion I do not agree with, or do not like the way he puts things and then delete or lock his post.
That kind of stuff happens rarely at the depot anyway, with the exception of a few..[;)]

So if you think we need a moderator here, I say no....
If his only job would be to lock down threads and the like.
Anyone coming here, looking for help usually gets the answers he or she is looking for, and you have been very good in that role. keep it up, and I will as well.

I think I know why the question was raised tho , as Wild Bill was asking for the "3 years..." thread to be locked. Is that why?

Nice work Glenn....you promised me that you no longer held any rancor or ill will towards the Depot, and flat-out told me that you did not subscribe to the 'ideas' you posted above: was that all a lie? Two short months ago you posted this 'public apology' to the SPWAW community:
ORIGINAL: KG Erwin
I was banned from the SPWaW Depot forums for some really nasty and stupid things I said many months ago. I was wrong, and I sincerely apologize for any damage I may have done to the Depot's credibility.

I make no excuses -- my comments were unwarranted, and my accusations were unfounded.

It is obvious that the Depot's members are only focused upon enhancing the game and contributing to its legacy, that and nothing more.

That is also my intention on this forum, and why I remain an active contributor.

Many of my closest friends are members of both forums.

I throw myself at the mercy of the Depot's administrators, and request that I be reinstated as a forum member.
...and now, for no reason that I can see, you make another unwarranted attack on these same 'close friends'? I believed and trusted you Glenn; is this my reward for that?

Well, its time to 'reap what you have sown' buddy: the terms of your probation at the Depot say nothing about where a 'violation' occurs, and the wild, untrue allegations you posted clearly qualify as a 'violation'. What the hell is wrong with you? Do you not see that its you who continues to try to fracture the community? What exactly are you trying to achieve?

Whoa. No need to escalate this boys. Glenn, if you think the depot mod group is a "clique" then share that with them, preferably privately. They're big boys, they can take it. (Tracer--chill!)

I've enjoyed having your input over there--you've started some good discussion and interaction--keep up the good work, but please don't take potshots at the mods. They are distributing the mountain of work, and if they are collegial about it, so be it--you or I don't have to be part of the mod group to contribute to the community.

The guy that started that "3 years..." thread here was in my opinion nothing more than a troll. If he really was concerned about the state of steel panthers, he would do more than stop by every three years, drop a bomb and then mosey on. Let it go.

This forum has been doing fine since Glenn has stepped down and I'd like to see it stay that way. So what if things get cluttered? Use your search function. So what if trolls drop bombs? Ignore them. MGF Steel Panthers forum doesn't need a mod.

Thanks, IBTyrone. Once in awhile my temper gets the best of me, and good judgment goes out the window. I'm gonna start having my wife look over my shoulder while I'm posting, so she can say to me "think twice before you hit 'enter' " when it's necessary. [:o]

We're not.

Incidently, when that sedan with the three guys in grey suits pulls up out front, answer the door. We don't want to have to label you 'compliance resistive'.[8D]

There was a saying in the Prussian/German army for enlisted men, that if you felt you had a grievance with a superior, wait 24 hours before making an official complaint.
Unfortunately, this standard is hard for some on the forums to practice, and inebriates and social misfits tend to provoke without fairness or consideration, just to fulfill an agenda and "correct" an imagined wrong.
These folks always bring stuff back onto themselves, and ALWAYS blame somebody else..........
Is a moderator needed ?
As noted in an earlier post, some moderators see themselves as folks in a position to *help* others.
Some "moderators" think their true function is "censor"..
We don't need any hall monitors here.

I would say be thankful there isn't a mod here Glenn...as some of the personal attacks and potshots you took in this thread and another might have landed you with a vacation.

ps...being under the influence shouldn't be looked at as a valid excuse for posting childish rants either Gunny. Would you accept that from some drunk who plowed into your car at a stoplight and then got out and said "oh boy sorry about that, just a little plastered here."? [8|]
