divided air groups

Post by KevinMcGuire »

I split the AVG group in order to upgrade to Warhawks. With my losses in other theaters it would have taken 4ever to get to 72 planes. So I divided them. The first problem was all the pilots stayed with group A so the other 2 groups had no experience. No big deal I figured once I upgraded all 3 groups I would withdraw groups B & C. Well when I did the name stayed as AVG\a so the game sees this as a sub group. I have 24 ready planes but have 41 or so that are damaged & never repair due to the fact of the avg\a subgroup name I would guess & since it is a sub group now I can't redivide this unit so I can have all 72 planes operational. Is there any way to fix this like a save game editor where I can change the name back to just AVG. I would think that would fix the problem.

You'll have to wait until the withdrawn sub groups come back and rebuild the group.

Hi
by splitting the air group, you have 3 independent groups of 24 planes each.

If the /B and /C have been withdrawn, they will be in air reinforcement schedule. You will need to wait till they return and rebuild the group then.
Unless you have told them not to reform. In which case, they wont come back and the group /A will rename that way - max size of 24 planes with the excess in reserve.

What version of program are you using as all the pilots should not be going to one group only?

in 1.6 I have had the problem of splitting a group and if aircraft were damaged more pilots went to A group and B and C ended with less than 24 pilots. Havent done it since so not sure if it carried over to 1.602.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

Performed test using 1.602:
I had a BG with 21 ready and 12 damaged planes; 33 pilots
The split groups had 7 ready and 4 damaged planes; 11 pilots each

Had another BG with 36 ready and 36 damaged; 52 pilots
Split was 12 ready and 12 damaged in each group; pilots were 12 in A, 16 in B and 24 in C.

Added 4 more pilots and pilot split was 24/20/12 respectively.[:D]
Although slightly uneven, all ready planes were piloted. And no group ended up with more pilots than the split group size.

I'm using version 1.6 when I split AVG I misspoke not all pilots stayed it was most of them as groups B & C no longer had 80+ experience they had around 52 & did not have enough ready pilots if i remember correctly. My problem is when I withdrew groups B & C I don't think I reformed them as they would not have enough planes to draw from the pool & would come with 0 planes & would constantly draw P-40's from my replacement pool. So it sounds like I'm stuck with 24 planes in AVG. I was hoping I could use the editor in a saved game & change the name back to just AVG but that doesn't seem possible. Thanks for the replies.

When a reformed group arrives, they draw planes on that turn.
They could even arrive with a different type if there are no planes of the original type available in pool.

Looks forward 2 models, back 1 model : from other sources

I've seen this problem too when spliting air groups. Also if you move an air group that has had some losses, the bulk of the attached pilots will stay with the disabled part. Then the air group takes on new planes and pilots. When the disabled part is repaired, you then have too many pilots attached to the air group.
