G'day War Veterans.

A slight hiccup with actually playing my game.
After the introduction, the game downloads to about 95%, and then takes me back
to my Desktop.

System Requirments are good (I believe) though have been proven wrong before[:D]

I have OS XP, 768Ram, 18G free space, ATI Rage 128 Pro, P4 1.6
What am I missing? [&o]

Can you run a dxdiag report on your system and then attach it to your post. This will help the tech guys figure things out. First suspects are always your video and audio drivers. Check to make sure they are up to date. Some players have had problems with their ATI drivers, but were able to overcome them by downloading a new set of drivers. You might look further down the postings in the support forum for others with ATI problems.

I am not a tech - just another player - but this caught my eye:

Driver Name: ati2draa.dll
Driver Version: 5.10.0000.0108 (English)
DDI Version: 8
Driver Attributes: Final Retail
Driver Date/Size: 8/18/2001 00:55:58, 266368 bytes

If your graphics driver is from 2001 I would expect that to be the culprit.

I dont use ATI myself so I leave it to someone with more knowledge about that brand to suggest a driver to download and install.

You have a 16MB video card. The minimum requirement is a 32MB card. It is possible that if you find a newer driver for your card, the game might run (but it would run slowly or at least would scroll slowly). Realistically you need to get a newer video card for the game to run.

Ok, thanks very much to Jan and Joel.

I think its pointless at the moment in installing a newer driver (for the moment atleast), though I can't do anything until Saturday in getting a better video card. Seems awefully low as I thought my Video card was a 128MB

Any suggestions as to what kind of Video Card is good, without paying toooooo much?
Thanks again!

16MB VRAM is probably the real bottleneck in your system; CPU and RAM are quite a bit better. I'd go for a videocard with 128MB (minimum) *dedicated* memory; should not be much more expensive than 32MB or 64MB.

Are you sure your current card (box or manual) states 128MB dedicated VRAM or *shared* memory?
In the latter case, the card takes what it need out of your system RAM (internal mem, 768MB in your case) up to 128.

Cant really suggest a specific card; mine is a laptop specific ATI. In general, either ATI or NVIDIA seem to be the types of card to for.

YMMV, but I got the game working on an older laptop with 16MB video starting the game in lowres windowed mode (I forget the shortcuts; someone might be able to help you there. Maybe in the readme?).

Hope this helps.
