Major, major problem with freeing minors

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Major, major problem with freeing minors

Post by BossGnome »

It seems that for minor powers with more than 1 territories, they do not come in one block. Let me explain myself: Sweden offers (oh joy!) to free finland, if I, Russia, pay them a modest sum of 120 gold over the course of 1 year with 10% interest. I agree, thinking they will free the ENTIRETY (therefore the 2 provinces) of finland. However, they end up just freeing the province named "finland" leaving the other one, the better one, the one I wanted, still in their control, and what's more, A PART OF SWEDEN AND NOT A PROTECTORATE ANYMORE.[&:]

The same thing happens when an austrian computer loses a war to a french computer. The french ask the austrians to free illyria. This the austrians do, but then Venetia (which is part of the same "minor country"), becomes "part of austria" and no longer has protectorate status. This leads me to assume the same is true with any other minor country: I.E. were someone to defeat france and force the liberation of one of the dutch provinces , the other province would become a part of france, and no lonoger a protectorate. This is majorly screwy please review it!

ps: A protector should also NEVER be allowed to liberate part of a protectorate. Seriously, protectorates are still theoretically independant countries here, how would they like to be split up?[:-]

not to be smart or anything, but again, ask the Chezh before the 2nd WW, they didn't even have a say in it, France and England decided for them

but, for this game, Eric has been working on it, and it may end up as one of the oddities of the game

Yeah I had one that bugged the hell out of me.

As Russia I fight the Poles and take most of the border provinces, then the Poles appeal to the Frogs and become a Frog protectorate. So I fight the Frogs and force them to surrender. As part of the surrender I demand they free two Polish provinces which I still have designs on.

The Frogs free the two provinces, and then the rest of Poland ceases to be a protectorate and becomes Frog territory outright (I didn't ask for the Polish capital, just two border provinces).

Additionally, I declare war on Poland to seize the two now-free provinces, and every turn the war ends and I can't conquer them.

Wait, are you saying they are a bigger pain in 1.2 than in 1.1? Heh, hope not. I've been refining my political approach to bloodless expansion.

Yep, you have found about half of the multi-province minor irregularities in v1.1.

Eric has fixed some of the issues in v1.2, and is working on the others. I am testing it extensively, and will be delighted if we can get something sensible to happen in all the different possible circumstances - we will see.

At this stage I have been unable to convince him that one part of the country changing state should not turn protectorate minors into conquered minors, so that 'feature' will probably still be in v1.2 - although I fully intend to fight the battle again in the lead up to v1.3.

If ALL the other provinces than the main one of such a country, or minor power, turn into protectorates, either when it changes hands or when it manages to be coaxed into independence, that may be fine. Nonetheless, it is a bit perplexing while seeing Berg (also of Bavaria, right?) was still in French hands after Bavaria (as a province) and Nuremburg had stood against and shed French protection.

The new behavior in 1.2 should be that a player's liberating any province via treaty clause will liberate all provinces of the player that have the same original player as the province specified to be liberated...

For example: if France has Bavaria-player as a protectorate with both provinces Nuremburg and Bavaria under French/Bavarian control, and if France is specified to liberate either Bavaria-province or Nuremburg-province, then *both* provinces shall be liberated.
