Russia

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Russia

Post by TexHorns »

I have been playing Russia for many turns now as I learn the game. I have some questions that I have not been able to find the answers to in the rule book and Ralegh's guides.

Russia has two provinces whose best product is textiles, yet I can't get them to produce textiles. The rule book states that textiles are made from wool and cotten in provinces with "trade labor". I can't find trade labor mentioned anywhere else. I tried all combinations of maxing textiles and labor in a province and still no textiles.

I only am able to get textiles through trade. The economy screen shows I 'm producing 2 textiles but losing 4-6 to waste. Yet between the two provinces according to the development screen I;m producing 20. Help inclarifying this would be appreciated. I seem to be able to get plenty of everything else.

I'm still enjoying the detailed battles. The AI is okay. It uses formations, cavalry and flanking moves. What it does poorly is attack when defending. I am able to set up a solid line of infantry and artillery with cavalry on the flanks and pretty much let him come to me. I am having difficulty figuring who the attacker and defender are in a moving engagement.

This seems to be a slower pace than most games. I've found with Russia at least, best to sit back and build troops and developements and wait for opportunity to form treaty's and fight wars. Prussia jumped into first on Glory Points and formed an alliance with France as part of surrender treaty. Britain and Russia allied and DOWed Prussia and Sweden piled on also. Now Prussia/Poland are being torn apart. Great fun.

Any ideas on Russia I missed please feel free to add.

It means "labour directed to textile production" - the same guys who produce cotton and/or wool also make textiles.

As Russia in 1805, you have 27 provinces - I would have at least 6 - probably 8 - of them focusing on textiles. I would use: Corfu, Grodno, North_Novgorod, Kursk, Tver, Vologda. I would probably also use: Kharkov and Podolia. The only places half decent for textiles who I would NOT use for textiles are Kiev and Mogilev, who between them are the bread (and wine) basket of Russia.

You should probably have a look at the Consolidated Province List I posted a day or two ago...

In v1.1 the economy reports don't go together nicely: some reports are pre-waste and some post-waste, some are estimates of this months outcomes and others are last months actuals. I can't make em go together. Eric hopes to make this a little more clear in v1.2, and to put out a economy whitepaper to make it all clear.

Yup. A few enhancements to this in v1.2, but still no real attacker/defender logic - although I keep arguing for it.

The slower pace is because you are Russia, and you are choosing to play that type of game. The pace feels frantic for France. If you are building up, consider improving the navy: could you take Britain after the French have been handled?
