Off-season progression problem

Post by motnahp »

Recently upgraded to Gold Edition and all went well through the end of the season and World Series. My association is set up as multiplayer, with all teams human controlled. I log in as commissioner and randomly import players each off season to replace retirees. This setup is the heart and soul of my assn and I don't desire to change it.

I noticed my first difference between Gold and previous versions during the Amateur Draft phase. In the past, I had brought each team up to 35 men before this stage. I was accustomed to the program immediately forwarding me to the Free Agent phase (assume this was because the program recognized all rosters were full). With Gold, I was required to "Skip to End" with each team one-by-one. After I had skipped with the final team, I got the following two errors, which repeated themselves several times before I did a three-finger exit:

(1) Error establishing FTP connection. No error.

I clicked OK, then:

(2) Error connecting to FTP server: Invalid socket or not connected to remote.

I clicked OK again, and was given the first error. The cycle repeated itself several times.

Following my exit from the program, I re-entered and logged in normally, as commissioner. I was at the "Start Amateur Draft" page again. I tried again and got the same results.

Under my options and utilities, I have the box labeled "Enable Multiplayer" checked. I have never entered any FTP info (and I'm not sure exactly what it is, regardless). I did a test assn and un-checked the box. I then was able to control only one team at a time. If necessary, I can zip and send a pre-Gold assn and/or the assn now corrupted.

Well, this isn't your official answer, but in order to do multiplayer you need someone in your league with an FTP account. That's how the assocaition files are sent back and forth. I guess the best question is , since you checked Enable Multiplayer, what did you expect the game to do as far as multiplayer is concerned? I think you may be misunderstanding the MP as it functions within PureSim.

I was using this mode without any problems before upgrading to the Gold Edition. This mode gave me complete control over the assn's teams. I never intended to actually START a real multiplayer. There were never any sharing of files, etc. Over the last 2-3 months, Shaun contemplated eliminating multiplayer altogether. This seemed to be one of the issues that delayed the release of Gold. Once he decided to keep MP, I decided to go ahead and upgrade. Apparently, he has made some changes to it that prevents me from running this type of assn. I hope not. A thirty-year assn hangs in the balance. Starting over is an option, but not something I'm looking forward to.
