The Lost Battalion

If you missed the WWI movie, The Lost Battalion, last Sunday night, you have another chance to see it tonight at 9pm (EST) on the A&E Network.

The movie is quite well done, very authentic, with only one weapon "goof" that I caught. That error is on screen for just a second or two, can you catch it? <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

Yes,i missed it,the Mrs wanted to see something like "Peeling potatoes and pomegranates for Christmas with Elmo"(or some such crap)..I will see it tonight!!!Thanks for the heads up..

i haven't watched it yet but i got it on tape...you wouldn't be surprised if i didn't

Thanks Warrior for the heads up - I'll record it tonight. I knew there was something I wanted to watch Sunday night but couldn't remember - thanks again.

And M10BOB - I never thought I'd even see the word "Elmo" on this forum - but I got a good laugh out of. <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

Didn't catch the weapons error, but the final note mentioning the "Congressional" Medal of Honor is a common mistake. It's simply the Medal of Honor. Otherwise, I thought it was a well-done production, and kudos to A&E for giving us a view of the American contribution to ending WWI. I won't say winning, but that's another topic altogether.

The goof was a weapon used by the Americans. But what was it??? <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0"> (The Mausers all looked OK to me, the other was really obvious.)

.45 loading error and the lack of spent cases when opening the bolts of the rifles..nothing had recoil..close up of a guy racking the slide on his 1911 .45, but if you looked at the ejection port, you saw the top of an empty magazine

That No4 Mk1 Lee Enfield wasn't made until WW2.. No1 MkIII Lee-Enfield's were used in WW1 but not by the Americans .. Check the Mausers in the Trench with the Flamethrower Guys just before the Assualt some are WW2 type 98k's with turned down bolts oops

Looks like nearly everybody spotted something! I noticed that empty mag in the .45 also, but the pistol itself was authentic. AmmoSgt got the one I was referring to: The .303 Enfield leaning against a tree, and while I presume it was of the era, I couldn't be sure because the end of the barrel wasn't showing. It was the magazine that caught my eye and allowed me to ID it as a weapon the Americans didn't use. (BTW, I completely missed the Mauser.)

I don't know that much about radios, but what I saw look clunky enough to convince me it was reasonably authentic.

All in all, we're some sharp-eyed experts, and Hollywood should hire us to check any war movie before it's released! <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

I didn't get to see the movie, but in this time period they were still using spark gap radios, cw only (morse code). If it was in use the sound would have a raspy tone since they didn't have a clean signal.

Finally got to watch it and loved it!! I thought it was well done. I didn't catch the gun stuff but did notice a few odd things. Like when they attacked the Major didn't have a coat and in one scene after the attack he has a light colored coat on - then it's gone again. He even had his gun strapped around it like he had it on the whole time.

It's recorded so I'll be watching it again soon!!
