This thread is off limits for Adi. [:-]

SITUATION REPORT OF 1.1.1942

from: High Command, Tokyo
to: Her Majesty, the Emperor

The war between the glorious Japan and the oppressive western power has begun on Dec. 8th, 1941 (7th in USA).

This are the landing operation made during the first day of war:

Central and South Pacific

- three Inf Bn landed on Wake: after a fierce fighting by the defenders, the supremacy of our soldiers, forced them to surrender.
- South Sea Detchm landed on Guam. Not too much resistance. Island occupied.
- 6. NLF landed on Tarawa, immediately occupied
- 52. INF Nav Gd Bn landed on Makin atoll, easily occupied

The Philippines

- Batan I.: occupied by the 1st Sasebo Inf Bn
- Luzon: landing at Aparri, Vigan, Lingayen, Legaspi, Lamon Bay and Tugueguarao (for the result of the Philippines campaign, see the following report)
- Mindanao: landing at Davao, Cagayan and Cotabato
- Jolo: landing of 9. NLF. Island occupied
- Para assault over Taytay, occupied

New Guinea

- Kavieng: landing of the 66. Nav Bn, (occupied)
- Rabaul: landing of two Inf Rgt and 3 Inf Bn Rgt
- Sorong: 23. NLF, (occupied)
- Hollandia: 22. NLF (occupied)

DEI

- Amboina: landing of 2 Inf Rgt
- Kendari: 2 Inf Bn
- Borneo: landing at Brunei (11. NLF), Miri (12. NLF), Kuching (1 Inf Rgt + 2 Inf Bn)

Malaya

- Khota Bharu: 18. Inf Div, 4. Inf Mix Bde, 6. Tank Rgt, plus Arty, Eng and HQ units
- Mersing: 5. Inf Div, 23. Inf Mix Bde, 2. Tank Rgt, plus Arty, Eng and HQ units
- Songkhia: 35. Inf Bde, 14. Tank Rgt, plus Arty, Eng and HQ units

Burma

- Two Infantry Division and one Tank Rgt are marching directed to Tavoy and Moulmein
China

- obviously the 38. Inf Division has been sent to occupy Hong Kong
- the main goal is to keep the situation quiet.

Development of the first month of war

Central and South Pacific

All the objectives have been achieved. Wake, Tarawa, Apanama and Makin is in my hands.

The Philippines

- Major battles fighting in Iloilo and a last garrison left in Dadjangas. We plan to eliminate them in the next few days.
- We have encountered big troubles in Tuguegarao. The location is resisting from the Dec. 7th. He has more than 16’000 men and my 48. Inf Div plus two other regiments didn’t expected such a resistance. Reinforcement are underway.
- Bataan has only 8’000 men. The rest are splitted between Manila and Clark Field.
- He’s doing a great job in Luzon. Anyway a day or another all the location will fall in our hands.

New Guinea

- Two Infantry Nav Bn are occupying New Guinea, step by step.
- New Britain and New Irland are fallen. Rabaul is operating.

DEI

- The island with Amboina is conquered. Aviation is already operating from there.
- Amphibious assault is running in Pontianak (Borneo) and Medan (Sumatra)
- Jesselton and Tarakan have been conquered in the first days of war.

Malaya

- Khota Bharu, Mersing and Victoria Point is in our hands.
- Fighting in Alor Star, defended by 30’000 british.
- We are marching towards Kuantan and Johore Bahru.
The british has adopted the tactic that provide fighting everywhere.

Burma

- Tavoy has been conquered.
- Over 20’000 british have been encircled between Moulmein and Tavoy and will not reach Rangoon. This is great!

China

- Is fighint hard in Changsha and Yenen.
- Over 60’000 chinese are marching in direction of Kaifeng. I’m preparing to fight them.

Any suggestion is well accepted.

Report of 1.1.1942

Today I conquered Pontianak. Now my troops are marching from Kuching and from Pontianak to Singkawang where is troops are retreated.

I Burma I'm trying to encircle 40'000 men between Mounmeiln and Tavoy, blocking the road to Rangoon.

In New Guinea the occupation of the bases is continuing, and navy landing forces have occupied Biak.

In China the stalemate is continuing in Changsha, where he put together 180'000 men and in Yenen, where he has 93'000 men.

In Changsha is continuing to group the troops, now growt to 187'000 men. This is worrying.

Sit Rep of 5/1/1942

Malaya:
-Today my Nells sunk 4 AK trying to transport 224 group RAF out of Singapore. Well done.
-Taiping has been occupied so that the last 3000 british troops in Georgetown are trapped. Not too much but better than nothing.
-My troops marching from Khota Bharu direction Kuantan are extremely slow. This makes me nervous.

Borneo:
-Balikpapan has been conquered and the 300 oil plants are intact!

PI:
- The allied have evacuated Tugueguarao, after 30 days of bloody fighting, and they are retreating to Clark.

SW PAC:
The first troops landed in Lunga.

BURMA:
- The 40'000 troops encircled between Moulmein and Tavoy are dying for starvation. That's sad, but that's war.
- The first attempt to close the road between Rangoon and Tavoy by the Imperial Gds Division and the 1st Tank Rgt has been repulsed. Now my troops have to rest a little bit.

Sit Rep of

The Allied have evacuated the great part of the troops encircled betweeb Mounmein and Tavoy. Because my Daitai of Nell in Moulmein had few pilots than aircraft, no attacks have been made during the last two turns. [:@][:@][:@]
Now I fixed the problem, emptying the IJN pool [:(] but Adi created dozens of TF and my aircraft are not enough to attack all of them.
Anyway some of the AP and AK have been attacked in the port of Akyab: 2 AK sunk.

In the Central Pacific, the KB surprised a replenishment TF escorted by 2 DD between Baker I. and Canton I. I think that the 3 TK and the AO will never see the homeland again.

In China he's trying to isolate Canton from the rest of the China. The fight will be tough, because he ammassed there over 50'000 men.

Finally I found the allied carrier.
Two days ago I started a landing at Baker I. with a Inf Bn but I found a strong garrison. So, to avoid the loss of the battalion, I reloaded the troops. The operation was covered by the KB.
During the third day of operation, the KB sailed in direction of Canton I. and found the carriers Lexington and Saratoga.
The first to attack are the allies and the Kaga took two bombs. One of them exploded in one of the ammo magazine, but fortunately the ship is not in a bad conditions and is ready to fight again.

Today I landed troops for recon in Canton I. The landing is covered by the KB. The island is occupied by the 2. USMC Div so I'll reimbark the troops immediately.
Baker and Canton are for the moment off limits for the available troops.
In exchange the KB sunk the CL Concord.

Sit Rep of 1/17/1942

Yesterday I made a big mistake. I've decided to detach the damaged Kaga and to send the rest of KB south west, chasing the allied fleet.
I thought that the Canton airfield was out of service. Instead the allied aircraft, reinforced by the survivors a/c of the 2 sunk CV, attacked the Kaga and scored 9 bombs!
How stupid I've been!
I ordered immediately that the KB turn back and run to help the crippled Kaga. The KB will also try to decoy the allied a/c.

The aircraft on board the 5 remaining CV attacked Canton I. and destroyed many a/c on the ground.

Day Air attack on Canton Island , at 98,99

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 24
D3A Val x 89
B5N Kate x 73

Allied aircraft
F4F-3 Wildcat x 1
F4F-4 Wildcat x 1
P-40B Tomahawk x 3

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
F4F-3 Wildcat: 2 destroyed
P-40B Tomahawk: 8 destroyed
B-17E Fortress: 9 destroyed
SBD Dauntless: 3 destroyed
LB-30 Liberator: 1 destroyed
Hudson I: 3 destroyed
B-18A Bolo: 1 destroyed
PBY Catalina: 2 destroyed
TBD Devastator: 1 destroyed
B-25C Mitchell: 1 destroyed
A-20B Boston: 2 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
104 casualties reported
Guns lost 3

Airbase hits 14
Airbase supply hits 10
Runway hits 83

But the runaway remained operative and the allied responded launching an attack against the KB. The allied losses are heavy and they scored only 1 bomb hit on Kirishima.

Day Air attack on TF at 98,98

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 48

Allied aircraft
F4F-3 Wildcat x 2
F4F-4 Wildcat x 2
SBD Dauntless x 9
TBD Devastator x 6
Hudson I x 4
P-40B Tomahawk x 11
B-18A Bolo x 3
A-20B Boston x 3
B-17E Fortress x 7
LB-30 Liberator x 10

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 destroyed, 6 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
F4F-3 Wildcat: 2 destroyed
F4F-4 Wildcat: 1 destroyed
SBD Dauntless: 3 destroyed, 3 damaged
TBD Devastator: 2 destroyed, 1 damaged
Hudson I: 2 destroyed
P-40B Tomahawk: 7 destroyed
B-18A Bolo: 3 destroyed
B-17E Fortress: 2 destroyed, 3 damaged
LB-30 Liberator: 2 destroyed, 6 damaged

Japanese Ships
CV Akagi
CV Hiryu
CV Shokaku
BB Kirishima, Bomb hits 1
CV Soryu

Unfortunately the move of the KB didn't saved the Kaga. Another group of allied aircraft attacked her.

Day Air attack on TF at 97,96

Allied aircraft
SBD Dauntless x 3
P-40B Tomahawk x 3
B-18A Bolo x 3
B-26B Marauder x 10
LB-30 Liberator x 9

No Allied losses

Japanese Ships
CV Kaga, Bomb hits 18, on fire, heavy damage

Incredible. It means that also the level bomber scored hits... [X(]

As result of my stupidity, the Kaga will sink the next turn.

On the ground I've decided to close the game on the East Coast of Borneo, and land the 2. Division there.

Sit Rep of 1/19/42

In China, since some days, the Allied are attacking my base, especially Wuhan.
I've transfered there 1 Sentai of Helen and 1 of Sally, supported by 1 Sentai of Zero, to attack the base of Chungking. But the situation is very tough, because the AVG is very active.
Today 2 Zero lost, with 5 bombers, in exchange of 2 AVG's P-40 and 5 other fighters.

In Malaya, after week of a tough march, my troops occupied a desert Kuantan. From there I will transport, by ship, the strongest unit to Johore Bahru, were there is a strong resistance by the british.

In Borneo, after the fall of Samarinda, today I launched more than 1000 para over Banjarmasin. In the next days they will reinforced and I plan to conquer the base in 1 week.

In Sumatra, I landed troops in Sabang and Kuala.

Also in New Guinea it's a day of landing: Buna and Finschafen. From Sorong to Buna, (except Salamaua), the whole north coast of New Guinea is in my hands.

In Guadalcanal 2 Base Forces have started the construction of the airfield.

Sit Rep of 1/26/1942

The last 4 days have been very sad.
I tried a landing in Port Moresby, with more than 20'000 men.
The operation was covered by the baby-KB, with more than 90 a/c.
My recon plane didn't discovered any allied CV so I gave the order to sail in direction of PM.
With my surprise, when the convoys were only 6 hexes from PM CV Enterprise came out. Ok, I thought. Max 90 a/c against my 90. PM had only a dozen of a/c.
Incredible, in the following 3 days, my planes didn't score any hit on the Big E. The allied aircraft attacked my carriers and my transport.

Results: CVL Zuiho is on sys dam 99, and is sinking. The other 2 CVL are badly damaged and on their way to Rabaul.
I had to land some troops on Fergusson I. to avoid big loss. The other convoys, with some ships badly damaged are sailing back to Rabaul.
The operation have obviously been cancelled.
I'll have to tell this to the Emperor.

Now only Singkawang is in allied hands in Borneo.

I tried a deliberate attack at Yenen, just to soft a little bit the chinese defense. Result, I had 10700 casualties agains only 720!!! Imagine if I made a shock attack...

In Burma I caputerd Pagan and Taung Gyi.
In New Guinea I've occupied Salamaua.

In the Solomons I landed and occupied Buka

I'm continuing landing in Singkawang.
In Kuala the defenders are holding but it's a matter of days.

In Johore Bahru I have now 100'000 men. I'm waiting for some reinforcement and that the campaign in northern Sumatra is ending and after I'll start the attack.

Today I continued the occupation of the Solomons, landing troops at Shortlands Is.

Finally my army in the PI began the approaching march to Clark Field.

The allied aircraft taking off from PM have been deadly again. Today 8 Hudson hit and sunk 1 AP. (the troops were already unloaded)

An enemy TF has been detected at Lautern (Timor). Maybe he's starting the evacuation from Java reinforcing Timor, to delete my advance.
