War Weariness

Post by toddtreadway »

I think one of the things not modeled in the game that would add something is the lack of any penalties when serious losses are incurred.

For example, the US and Britain can throw forces away without concern that their citizens might not be too happy about it.

Proposal: Each power would have a maximum number of population points that could be lost each turn without penalty. After exceeding that threshold the population pool would be reduced. For example, Germany has a limit of ten population points. If germany has five infantry destroyed (or three destroyed and four damaged, etc.) any other losses would decrease the population pool. So every damaged unit would reduce the pool by two (but also increase it my one for a net of minus one), and destroyed units would reduce the pool by two. Or something like that. Countries with more democratic governments would have a lower threshold.

I think this would also abstractly model the increasing war weariness since there would likely be far larger losses later in the war.

I think the opposite was in effect for the US during WW2. perhaps thats a modern day issue of "war weariness", but I think the US was more behind the effort in 1945 than in 1942.

maybe the same could be said for japan and germany where news wasn't given to the general public and it wasn't until the bombs actually started to fall that the people knew something wasn't right.

Could give Germany the Uk, Russia etc a declining Pop Base in 44/45.

Maybe as a factor of how many units are lost. -1 for every 50 units? That way it might not hit the US they come in during the good times.

It was a legit concern though.
