Hands Off Games

I have been experimenting with the idea, I floated in another thread, of reducing Japanese militia to transport cost 1, reducing their land attack to 3 and raising their endurance to 7. This is to simulate them being SNLF or SBF small elite units rather than large poorly equipped units. That is the sort of Regiment or Brigade size landing forces that the IJN actually used to capture most of the islands they took from the Allies. I offset these reductions in offense by increasing the starting force by 4 militia.

I have also set their transport fleets to amphibious capacity 3 and transport capacity 20 but offset this reduction by increasing the starting force in 1940 by 5 transports.

My objective in all of this is to prevent the new small elite forces of the Japanese from being simply wiped out by aircraft in the early stages of their engagement and make it somewhat of a task for the Allies to sweep away these new high endurance militia. Essentially they will need to bring substantial ground forces to the attack to force retreats.

I am now letting the AI play itself several times to get a feel for whether I have upset play balance - my initial impression is no but ideally I would like to examine the situation at various time intervals. Unfortunately I have not worked out how to stop the AI once I have set it to play itself. Is there any way to do this or do I have to wait until the end and then wind backwards? Unfortunately I play under WinME and the wind back mechanism appears faulty for that regime.

interesting concept, it will be ineresting to hear your results. I doubt the AI will use the militia though, since I believe it would be hard coded to play unit types and not look at the stats.

3.New Feature – Added the ability to interrupt the game during an AI turn. Press ctrl-p to pause the AI and gain control over the top toolbar. Press ctrl-r to resume the AI’s turn.
