What exactly does "Attack Help" do?

Post by Doobious »

Supply help and transport help are self-explanitory, but what exactly does "Attack Help" modify? The die roll for that nation? The attack power of that nations units? Some unknown internal game variable? [&:]

The AI at normal is no challange any longer, and supply help and transport help seem to throw the balance/strategy of the game way off, so I thought about messing around with attack help instead. I would like to know if I need to turn it up just a couple or 8.

Thanks,

Um... It's basicly free research into attack for every unit of that nation. Attack Help gives a + or - based on the number to the die roll for that nation's attack.

Negative numbers can be used, and obviously so can positive. 9 is the max either way. I suggest trying it with 1 and then slowly increasing it as you go on.

Attack Help gives a + or - based on the number to the die roll for that nation's attack.

Ahh, thats what I was looking to find out.

So will changing it +1 make a die roll of 3 a 4? That will make a small difference to the attack odds initially, and be magnified as the "attack ratings" of the AI troops increase?

Look at the last half of section (corrected to 8.5.7) for details on where attack help comes into play.

I guess I'm dense. LOL

5.7 is Unit Attributes. It says nothing about how the "Attack Help" effects units attacking, just what land, sea, and air attack are.

I ask because, I see no evidence of the "Attack Help" in the Detailed Combat Report or the Unit Data Screen, as increased attack values. [&:]

Thanks!

No...

What the moderator told you to look up was what would be increased (or decreased) by attack help. It's located in that section, even if it doesn't specifically tell you "attack help will increase/decrease this".

Read it and try to figure out what could have a -+ 1 to 9 modifier added to it.

Sorry, my mistake. Section 8.5.7 in the section having to do with die roll modifiers details the attack help (look for +AHL and -AHL).

Thank you Joel for pointing me in the right direction.

Much clearer now.

If anyone else missed this too:

The Attack Help modifier is added to the firing unit's dice roll total. [:)]
