v1.071 Beta Online Patch Posted!

Post by Erik Rutins »

Hello everyone,

The moment we've all been waiting for has arrived! Well, at least one of the moments... [8D]

The first limited public beta patch for online TCP/IP play in Gary Grigsby's World At War is now online. This is a comprehensive update that can be installed over any GGWaW installation. If you have any problems, we recommend doing a clean reinstall to eliminate any possible issues.

As this is a limited public beta, you will only be able to download it through our Members' Club. You will need to be registered there with your GGWaW serial number in order to access the Private or Registered Downloads, which include the beta patch. This will only be available for registered legal owners of GGWaW. Click on the "MEMBERS" link in our top navigation bar to register if you haven't done so already.

We'll be setting up a Limited Beta Feedback sub-forum in a moment. Please post comments, problem reports, etc. there and not in the other parts of the forum. We want to make sure we know that a problem is with the v1.070 Beta and not with the previously released official updates, so we need to keep the feedback separate.

We are very interested in hearing your results in TCP/IP play. We expect that, as this is a beta, there will be some issues and we are hoping that the feedback from your games will help us fix any glitches and move swiftly to an official update release.

Thanks for your time and enjoy.

Regards,

- Erik

Here is what you have to do

1. Click on "Members" at the top
2. Click on "register" and register yourself (its not using the normal forum login)
3. You should then get a password per email for the members club - use that to log into the members section
4. Inside the members section - click on registred downloads. It should then look something like this

5. Click on downloads next to the relevant game.
6. Download the patch.

Let me know if that doesnt work out for you.

Does it have a "No Butt-Head" filter?

On a more serious note, what are you supposed to see if you click "Find A Game"? I don't see anything, but am under the impression that you are supposed to see a list of Hosted Games you can join. As I don't have the firewall enabled, I am thinking there may be a list of Internet Settings under the browser Options heading that might optimize connectability. Or, otherwise, maybe there is a IP address or website address that should be registered as "Trusted"?

You only see something if you have entered the ISP of another player who is currently hosting a game.

There is no central pool of games - its all peer-to-peer.

AHHH... Thanks. Perhaps the final version will be like other Games that provide a Chat/Game Forum - i.e. Gamespy type environment.

AHHH... Thanks. Perhaps the final version will be like other Games that provide a Chat/Game Forum - i.e. Gamespy type environment.

I started a thread about this very idea yesterday, but put it in the new thread area where its not getting much exposure.
Here's its link Chat room

Yes we do need a chat area now that this game can be played live. This would make it so much easier to share IP's and discuss who is going to join and play what sides and such. That is to slow to do via forum posts. TCP/IP is for those that what to get started in a game right away and play a quick match. Also using the forum in this way would just clutter it up. Forums were not created for this purpose. Thats what chat rooms are for. And as Jan suggested in a reply to my thread about a chat room we could use the one Matrix games supplies.

Ok I found the problem. I was going to registered downloads instead of members downloads since it was a beta like I was doing with WITP.

Please note this has just been updated to v1.071 Beta.

The update addresses a bad bug in research that kept client players from getting research advancements.

Please download and install v1.071 Beta if you wish to test the new update and/or online play.

How come you suddenly insist on having to log in to a 'members area', which demands a NEW registration, i.e. not able to use login from 'forums'. I guess I am not the only one sick and tired of all fxxking registrations here and there wherever you move. The previous downloads where provided free of hazzle, why not this one?

I've been trying to download this patch for two days, but the download is not working. In the registered area, the page just refreshes. In the member area, the file is not found. Why the hell do you guys make it so difficult to get a patch???

edit - was able to download it from the member section on 11/20/05.

Downloading works just fine for me ; the problem is that I can't install the patch I've just downloaded ! [&:]

The installation programme keeps telling me my registration number is wrong, althought that's the very same number I have used to install the main game and to register it. Anyone has a clue ? If it matters, I have bought the game at a retail shop in France, where it has just been released.

edit : I've just figured out a similar issue had been adressed in the support forum, here :

Gullet,

Because this is a beta patch so we want to make sure it doesn't go out on the net as an accidental "official release".

Jombee,

Sorry, the Members' Club was having issues, glad to hear it's resolved now.

Grisold,

I'm going to post a new version with all the international serial numbers added in. Unfortunately, when I created the initial beta before the international release, I neglected to include those numbers. Stay tuned for more news.
