The hell?

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

The hell?

Post by BossGnome »

Is it just me or on some harder difficulties, the AI gets a huge huge money boost? In the 1805 scenario, playing as britain, I watch france hover around the 3000 gold limit constantly from about 6 months into the game. That is, at the point where they should have had a NEGATIVE income, at least until they defeat Austria... It seems like when I play, all the nations are always at 2000-3000 gold... isnt this a bit extreme?

nono, im also a bit stomped as to why the comps dont even USE that money[&:]

With those 2000 gold they have stockplied up there, they could subsidize some major major minor powers (haha im so funny[8|])
but no, they just keep it in the bank, and it dont really do nutting...

Those high stockpiles of gold ducats may have been the balances, which means they may have been receiving an ever higher pecuniary inflow than spending extravagantly. If my sight served me well, I witnessed an eye-popping high of over 5000 ducats in AI-France's coffers.

At higher AI levels the AI gets an income bonus -- there have been several forum threads on this already.

The AI uses a percentage of its resources and deliberately tries to keep the stockpiles you are seeing. A stockpile of money is very useful in Crown of Glory because the cost of supply armies on the march can sometimes become very, very expensive. A reserve of a few thousand money allows armies on the march in large stacks in bad weather to continue to pay the enormous costs required to continue receiving supply. Keeping a stockpile of at least 1,000 money is recommended to human players in the Ralegh Guides, if I recall correctly.

And remember to keep a stockpile of food too. Along with a gold reserve, it will serve as the last straw to clutch on to once a run on our capital takes place.

i see! thank you for enlightening me, sorry to doubt the wisdom of the AI which, I might add, is impressive in most places (except during the detailed battles). Kicks the hell out of RTW!
