OT: Australia through to the World Cup

Post by Arjuna »

Hooray!!

Finally after 31 years Australia qualifies for the 2006 World Cup in a thrilling match in Sydney against Uruguay. The game had it all going into extra time and then finally a penalty shoot out. The Uruguayans were full of class but the boys in the green and gold came up trumps. Congratulations to the Socceroos.[&o][&o]

Trivia stuff : the originally appointed referee for this match was a Flemish guy - until the FIFA decided that Flanders was just too close to Eindhoven .... [;)]

BTW : congrats on making it through to the World Cup. Now, didn't you have something urgent to get out of the door ? [;)]

and just watch them get drawn in the same group as England..[&:]

Did Harry Kewell play. I hope if he did that he is better for country than he is for my team...

Lucky you.
Our Canadian team will never be able to go to the World Cup. Trinidad and Tobago even beat us. There are more individual talents now however. Did you see the De Rosario free kick? Better than any Beckham's!!! It's something not to be missed. Only Juninho could do better...

The other thing about the qualifications for the world cup I was disappointed is the African selections. Come on! no Senegal, Cameroun nor Nigeria. Those were the most exciting teams.

Congratulations Dave!

Since everybody's asking who played: how about Jason Culina? He used to play for my team (FC Twente) till Guus lured him to Eindhoven two months ago, the bastard[:@]

Viduka, Kewell and Culina all played. Kewell was outstanding. He created the first goal, finished off oh so sweetly by Marco Brechiano.
