Ah, for a WWI Naval Wargame in the Med...

Ditto.

I was reading Conway 1906-21 to lear more about the period (I just bought WPO after enjoying very much WitP) *while* I'm reading the Histopry of WWI by Martin Gilbert, and I thing that The Med would have the right combination of naval action, interesting situations (Austria breaking out of the Adriatic Sea, Dardanelly's Straits blues etc.) and rarefied but interesting amphibious situations (Gallipoli, Malta...)

I would salivate!

WPO is great, anyway - one of the best game I ever played, and just oozing atmosphere. It even made me to visit our local Museum of Naval History in Milan (Italy).

The med was the true playground of the u-boats ... the most successful patrol ever ( in fact ever possible I might venture to guess ) by U-35 destroying 54 enemy ships while expending 4 torpedos !!!

Another u-boat sank 2 OBBs ... and mines got 3 OBBs all on one day ... so a play ground from the little stuff !

But we can dream - if no one dreams then nothing will happen !

There was a group of fans who tried to use the editor that came with WiTP to make a game based in the Med, but they ran into insurmountable hurdles, I think.

There are a lot of hardcoded features built into the WiTP map. (Malaria, Bataan coastal guns, and so on.) To make a game that focuses on European waters is going to require a ground up rebuild of the map code.

That's an interesting mod idea, though I thought that 2by3 games were planing on making one more game using the UV engine and that was to be based in the med? Prehaps I've gotten my facts a bit confused.

There was discussion - and announced decision not to pursue this - that was some time ago - there are threads around somewhere about this. Modders could probably do something with UV engine - but using WITP engine is problematic due to hardcoding for map areas, like malarial zone and aleutians zone. But so far no one has attempted. Dates would probably not look right.
