Supremecy in the Pacific - Allies Thread

Post by kfmiller41 »

Will go ahead and start an allied thread seeing as how BlackSunshine is doing one for Japan.

We are playing Scenario 8 with the house rule that Japan and the US are only at war to start and anyone else only gets involved if japan attacks them.

As this is my first game PBEM in WPO it will be a learning experience for me. From what I have read and looking at the initial dispositions I decided to get all my non combatant ships out of the Phillipines and back to Pearl Harbor. I am assuming I will be attacked at Wake, the PI and Guam to start. Land units in the PI will dig in and hold as long as possible. I try to be historical in my play style and I don't believe that the US would abandon the islands without fighting. Seeing as I have some ability to produce supply and oil in manila and clark I think I can hold for quite a while.

Most of my fleet in the US undergoes refits so it will be a while before I can get enough escorts to support my fleet unit BB's. I sent all but 4 of my Battleships to pearl along with subs. LCU are being sent to reenforce Midway and I will being building up supply and Oil at pearl harbor for the march across the pacific.

As expected there were landings at Appari, Ligayen and Cagayen. I was able to put a force of DD's within striking distance of the Cagayen landings and sent them in to try and get the transports. The action was at 2000 yards and I sank the Mikasa for the loss of a Destroyer.

Towns are falling like 10 pins in the PI right now. He will hit the defended cities soon and we will see what happens then.

Right tool for the right job.... PHotoshop is great for 'authentic' documents and 'authentic' pictures (Sun will never Set AAR: WITP). Snagit gives lovely clean lines.

Cheers

Sounds a very similar setup, except its three cats not dogs here. Two of them think they improve my game play if they stand in front of the monitor so I have even more fog of war.... or should I say fur of war?[:D]

Well this turn was interesting. I guess Japanese spies gave away my hiding place and the Japs sent a BB task force to bombard the port. Luckily I got allmy surface ships out before they got there (thank god for sub recon) and only one DD, damaged was at home. One Surface task force got into a scuffle with them but no major hits were scored, I got lucky.

Not much happeneing last few days. Japanese troops have entered Clark Field hex. Only one unit detected and an going to attack to see if I can drive it out. Am going to conduct a raid with my Destroyer force in Manila against the shipping in Lingayen. Hope to do some damage. My Cruiser/Destroyer force in the southern PI is moving to manila, no fuel in the area[:@] Buildup confinues in Pearl and have additional units in Midawy building up the base there. He is using his subs more agressively now so I have to be careful with my movements.

Not alot happening in the last several days. Japs have taken some of the outer islands in the PI and are getting more troops into clark field, but I have stripped all troops from bataan and one division from Manila to hold clark as it has the best fortifications. If it looks like it will fall I will try and retreat to Manila.
Finally have some Destroyers in Pearl[&o] and cans tart to think about moving west with the battle fleet if I choose. I could use some advice if any of you people have any. Playing the allies in WIPT tends to give you a decidedly defensive bent early in a game[:D]

Do not send any units to midway to reinforce, send them to PH. I was going to reinforce Midway too but then i realize he can take it all no problem and that if i wanted any chance for defense it was a PH. put those CD units and art units in PH not midway.

I think they will be better served there. Make sure you have good aggressive commanders for your PH BB fleets. Put them into 2 fleets of 8 ships so you get better results then with a jumbo TF.

PI will fall its only a matter of time you only have 400-500 AP while if he comes right he'll have 1000-1500 AP to wipe you out. But i agree clark is the place to hold as it has the best forts and from there you can retire to bataan.

mine PH like there is no tomorrow because you can sink up wards of 10 ships with just the starting mines. Good luck
