Volcanic Eruptions

I want to know if the random chance of volcanic eruptions is modelled.
If not[;)]THE GAME IS BROKEN AND NEEDS AN INMEDIATE PATCH.

Didn't Vesuvius (Sicily) erupt back in WW2? The debris wrecked a couple dozen B-25s that were at an AF in the vacinity.

Next, you'll be asking for Typhoons, it's not like they had those in WW2 either (one hit the Okinawa invasion forces that were parked there, I believe).

It would be highly entertaining to watch the volcano at Rabaul to erupt, esp. if there a few hundred thousand troops locked in mortal combat!!!

In Rome Total Wars you have volcanic eruptions... but that game is much less complex than this one (I have both on my HD but I almost never play RTW) [:D]

I thought those on Rabaul lived under parasols with Pina Colada's whilst our Allied flyers at Lunga lived in Malaria pits. You mean this isn't the case? [&:]

Hmm - apparently Rabaul erupted in 1941-42, and 1943. Here's what i found:

"Rabaul has had major eruptions 3500 and 1400 years ago. An eruption of Rabaul in 1994
forced the evacuation of Rabaul city, the largest city in New Britain.

Eruptions of Rabaul Volcano

There are 8 active vents in the Rabaul Caldera
Tovanumbatir, Kabiu, Rabalanakaia, Turanguna, Tavurvur, Sulphur Creek, Vulcan, Vulcan Island.

Eruptions of Rabaul Volcano
1995-2005, 1994-95, 1943, 1941-42, 1940, 1937, 1878, 1850?, 1791, 1767"

I never heard any mention of the eruptions in my reading about the war.

Don't forget halsey through a typhoon or two.

Also, WITP won't be accurate until you have friendly fire and accidents, ships in TF's running into wach other at night, ships grounding on poorly charted rocks, etc. The game is way too easy. [:D]

The Japanese probably mistook them for bombing attacks by Allied four-engine bombers. [:D]

also AFAIK the americans deliberately bombed the volcano at Rabaul to try and get it to erupt [8D]. fortunately nowadays our understanding of vulcanism is a bit better [;)]

The allied pilots probably just logged it as cloud cover and called it a day. [;)]

OK - the Allies flew over to bomb, but the volcano was erupting, so they couldn't see the targets. The Japanese heard the bombers, and had a bunch of planes destroyed, and chalked it up to bombing. Sure, why not?![:D]

Some staff guy had probably read a national geographic in the 30s and suddenly remembered the photos of naked women and that Rabaul had a volcano. That led to the inevitable "hey, i have an idea" moment. I haven't read anything about it getting past discussion stage much less a mission being launched.

Regarding the volcano itself, at least the Japanese had a way of keeping their saki warm.

Etna is the volcano in Sicily. Vesuvius is the volcano near Naples (it is the one that destroyed Pompei). It erupted in 1944.

Saburo Sakai in "Samurai!" mentions that the volcano at Rabaul erupted in 1942. They were minor eruptions but still bothersome, not quite the luxury suite of the Solomons.
