This new feature has been introduced by Matrix a couple of version ago, in order for people who felt the op fire frequency was not fitting with their feeling to alter it.
A couple of version ago, infact, the opportunity fire frequency has been raised by default for the AI and some people started whining abt it; so Matrix gave them the choice to change it at their will.

The higher you put the number the more likely is to trigger opportunity fire.

I have it set to 50% for both sides. Mainly to speed up a few things. And also to aloow a little sneak a poo. I have not really paid that much attention to it. But doesd seem to cut hte times down i have to say no.

The reason the opfire frequency or special opfire was put into the game was so people couldn't force units to use up all their fires and so become defenseless.

Some people didn't like the special opfire because it presented too many bizarre results such as a tank being able to fire at many many targets coming from all directions so that they could spin like a top and make a totally unrealistic number of shots. Also the units of the moving player were not given this special opfire whether they moved or not, a very illogical situation. Some of us asked that a button be included to enable us to adjust opfire frequency to our liking so we could eliminate this gamey aspect of opfire. So Matrix included the opfire frequency button. We asked they enable us to turn it all the way down to zero. Here is their reply:

"We feel no special opfire makes the game too predicable. If you want a game with predicable combat results, there are alternatives that have highly predicable combat results (SPWW2). Special opfire prevents gamey play and is an integral part of the game design. SP:WaW is done and no new features or substantive changes will be made.

Paul"

How SPWW2 is predictable is beyond me but the Camo Group and the Matrix people had a falling out of egos and any opportunity at poking the other is taken. In any event, at least we got them to reduce it to 30%, a major victory in the world of coaxing egos to do something at ones request.

Cheers,
Del

I have always played at 100% thats the default correct? I have had players assault me at 2:1 points ratio and then turn down the special opfire frequency from anywhere from 0%!-50% I find this unscrupulous, you have to really pay attention at the setup.

You cannot turn it down to 0%. Lowest setting is 30%. If they would allow special op fires for the moving player's units then it would be more even handed. As it is, if you are the moving player you get NO special op fire, staitionary units or no. There is absolutely NO logic in this 'feature'. It is arbitrary and unevenly implemented. At least allow the moving player's nonmoving units the same opportunity fire as the nonmoving players.
