We are to advance against the British at El Aghelia Libya. This is mostly to help the Italians out of the mess they have gotten there selves into here in Libya. I assume it has a bigger job then that. More then likely it is to push the British back and out of Tobruk. We are to advance and deal as much destruction on the british troops as we can. there is to be no quarter given and none to be asked for from us. this will be a bitter and hard fought battle today. it is clear and the visability is not great. Only 450 yards which will hurt us with our bigger guns. really like to have at least 1500 yards so we can take them out at range.
We have a long way to go before we will reach our objectives today. At least a thousand yards to cover. All companys must travel this yardage before we accomplish our mission today. this will be over two small ridges on the way and across a lot of open ground. A has the north today while b the center and c is in the south. A has the longest amount of ground to cover almost 1200 yards.
each company has 2 platoons of tanks as support. One each from d and e company. Plus 6 batterys of 150 heavy guns on call. We are up and ready to go all the men have been remarking how we whipped these same troops in France earlier this year and today will be no different. Weather clear and hot and the tanks are starting there engines can hear the throaty roar of the big Pzk V as I type. we are to start our advance at 2000 hours and by my watch it is almost that time. Once again we go out into the teeth of a tiger and do battle for the glory of Germany.

This battle is going to be tough. Jumped off at 2000 hours with at least 1000 yards to advance before reaching the first objective . At least 1200 yards for A co in the north. Must advance over two ridges which will expose us to the british as we advance. A in the north has gotten to with in 600 yards of there objective while b in the center has mauybe 500 more yards to go. Both companies have moved over the low ridge that was dead in front of them. Are now moving to take the next low ridge that hides the objectives from them. A in the north has been taking the brunt of the British bombardments from 4.5 and 18 pdrs.
Co B 3rd platoon lost there atr a few minutes ago to this constant rain of heavy shells. The Hq co of C 2nd platoon was completely obliterated by a 2in mortar barrage a few minutes ago as well. Might have been 3 in did the job no matter what it was. Lost a tank in a duel with 3 cruiser III 13s that had taken up positions on the southern objective as well. He took out one of them before he went down and his buddies from his company sent the other 2 to hell a few seconds later. Also lost a PZ 38t To a 4.5 shell lucky hit went right down the open turret. The crew did not survive needless to say. Tore the whole inside apart when it went off inside the tank. They were a veteran crew had over 11 kills to there credit. We cant lose this calibre of crews and continue to win this war. We dont have the manpower to replace these kind of men anymore.
The british hold the high ground still on the two ridges we must cross to get to our objectives. We are pushing them back at 50 yards at a time. the ground is being grudgeinling given up by the british. Have not seen much in the way of armor so far. Im sure this will change the deeper we get into there territory. We have taken out at least 15 of those pesky bren LMG teams as we advance plus at least 3 mortars of the 2 in type. Several Hq squads have also met there maker plus several infantry squads as we continue to keep the preasure on the British. Our sig33 150s continue to rip holes in there defenses. Not much for our Sp ATG as the briish armor has seen fit to hide from us.
All in all we are doing well and making the gains we expected to make. We are in no hurry today we can take our time and grind this victory out with aminamum loss of life and equipment.

We have moved up to the western slope of the last hill we have to take before the flags. It is a slow grueling fight making sometime only 50 yards in ten minutes. We push they resist then we push again they retreat 50 yards. Have found at least 3 of the 2in mortars and blown them up. They still have a bunch of them left that they continue to harrass us with tho. I have one heck of a headache from the constant booming. I may never get over it till the day I die. Which may not be too long if I dont keep sticking my nose into the the thick of action. A 4.5 landed about a hundred yards off a little time ago. Thought I was going to mess my new uniform.
We are progressing well the men have not let up on the pressure we have been exerting on the enemy. Push hard so they dont have the time to set up any kind of permanent defense in there retreat. Took out another one of there tanks sitting up on top of the center hill. Was two of them there but all of a sudden after taking out one of them the other one disapeared. Have not been able to find it as yet. Dont know where that sucker went to. Our tanks are keeping to my orders today. No tank moves forward without infantry in front of them. Have not had any frontal assaults on any of our tanks as yet. Thats because the infantry roots out the british before they have a chance to attack the tanks.
Our losses so far today is somewhere around 100 men. That is not bad for a battle of this magnitude. I believe that figure is so high from the constant rain of 4.5 and 18 Pdr shells that have been falling down on us from the sky. I wish we had the ammo supply there guns have our 150 are getting close to how much longer they can keep up the fire on the enemy lines. I have been on the light mortars to keep up close to our lines so the range they fire is at or close to only 300 yards. There effectiveness is so much better at this distance.
All companys have moved up to with in 600 yards of all three objective points. They should be with in our grasp before the next hour is up. I believe the british will be in full retreat before this next hour is over. They are not able to withstand the heavy losses much longer and present any kind of defense againt our constant pressure.

Over an hour into the fight now and the British contunue to try and break thru our lines. We have taken the center and the southern objectives. Maybe 250 yards from taking the north as well. The Britisih sent at least 25 tanks to try and crush A co in the north. Didnt work out for them caught them between the center and the north plus sent my tanks north from the south to help. Might be maybe 4 tanks left from this force that tried to take the north and hold our troops at bay, It did not heppen tho without some damage to us along the way. We have lost at least ten tanks and somewhere near 100 men. The Matildas have been the hardest to knock out for us. Some times takes over 20 hits to one of them and even then we dont knock them out they abandon the tanks and run. Then we must move over and destroy the left and burned out body of the tank. It has been a tough and long fight to move even 50 yards. We have been going around and rooting out the crews of the enemys tanks right now.
It would be safe to say that we are once again giving the British a licking. We have broken the back of the british and they will soon be in full retreat. There are times during the battle when I was ready to give up and run like when I saw the horde of tanks move across my front towards the north. I had the fear that every body in A company was going to die with no way for me to save them. My heart sank and I saw the end of this battle in my head. Then I pulled the support tanks for B co and sent them north plus a platoon from C in the south. After 15 minutes of very intense fighting the force was defeated and we were on the move again. From sure defeat to victory in less then 20 minutes. You never can tell how a battle will go until the last shot is fired. A man in a fit of desperation charges a line and breaks the will power of a near defeat and turns it into victory, I love these men there devotion to duty inspires me to stay with the battle and never give up no matter what it looks like.
Ran into some positons of AA guns and anti tank sitting behind the northern objectives. At least three tanks are sitting in amongst them. Have laid a barrage of 150 amongst them. Seem to have quited there response as we move infantry over to try and take then out. I believe that was the last we will hear from our 150, they have run out of ammo as they always seem to do at a very critical part of the battle. Even tho i try to conserve it never seems to last much longer then an hour to an hour and a half. The south has another set of low hills to climb over then they will be moving thru open ground for at leat 800 yards to the first of the rear objectives. So far no resistence has been met as they climb the western slope of this hill. 3 tanks sit to the northof C company maybe 350 yards going to try and bypass them so as to reach the rear as fast as we can. They have only 3 tanks in support as I sent the other platoon to the north to help with the large force of tanks the British sent that way. The platoon lost 2 tanks in trying to take the south flag while taking out 5 of the enemy who had camped there.
At this minute we are winning wether we will win big our break even is now up to if we still have the force to take the 2 rear objectives.
Lot of the squads are being cut down to half strength . The men have fought hard for over an hour just hope they have the strength and will power to continue advancing against a very determined and tough enemy. Our water supply is getting low also ammo has begun to be an issue. Some of the men have begun to pick up weapons and discarded ammo from the dead British to supplement there own. Most of the tanks are down to less then 20 rounds of ap shells and still there is no let up in armor that we continue to find as we move towards our final destinations. All the sig33 150s have run out and begun to move towards our rear. This alone will make a big difference if we run into any large defense at the rear objectives. They have been a major help in our advance as they cut the enemy to pieces with there acurrate firing on large groups of the enemy. The battle is ours the only difference will be how bad we beat them from now on.

We continue to press forward but we are losing too many man and way too much of equipment. But the British continue to hit us with there armor even tho they have loss a tremendous amount of it. From reports some where around a 1000 men and at least 75 tanks.
We have taken all three of the objectives and we are now moving towards the two rear ones. C in the south has maybe 400 yards or less to capture the southern rear one. A and b in the center and north flank still has at least a thousand yards to go before they reach the rear north one. Running into AA and ATGs as we move toward the rear in the north.
Let me tell you these matildas are one tough tank. Our tank gunners shot and hit a matilda awhile ago at least 20 times. All they managed to do was knock off one of there treads. Of course the crew jumped out and tried to run but our tankers were so upset they mowed them down to a man. Then we had to move some men over to the spot and spike the guns and blow the dam thing up by hand.
Another time 3 squads jumped one of the matildas. They close assaulted it 7 different times with the same luck as the tankers blowing off a tread. So I thought i would bring up a tank to knock it out and help the infantry. Wrong thing to do. As our tank moved to within VIsability the dam Matilda got off a round and blew our tank up with one shot. The matilda still is sitting there blocking our route to the rear. It will have to be delt with before we can pass our tanks by it.
After this battle I am hoping we will be able to get the newer PZk IIIg tanks to replace the older model. The ones with the 50mm gun and not this peashooter 37mm one. At least that would be somethin nice to come out of this battle. The battle still rages and we have not broken the british spirit so far. But I dont see how they can last much longer what with the death and destruction we are handing out to them. Our losses will be high but the british losses will be way higher. They will have to recruit a lot of new tank crews as our men are picking them off as they run towards the rear and safety. No quarter and none asked today.

The battle is over we have destroyed evey man and piece of equipment they had on the map. The only thing they had left was there 4.5 off board artty. Before taking the last objectives we hunted there 18pdrs and there 25 pd guns and blew them up as well. Rooted out every tank crew that had fled and shot them down as well. it was complete annilhilation for all the damage they had done to us. We lost 322 mem and 14 tansk topday to there 1501 men and 28 artty plus 62 tanks. it was called a draw dont see how they have no more army to fight with we do. This should really slow the british efforts in Libya and Egpyt this year and for years to come.
We are to get replacements for our tanks of the new Pz IIIh With the new 50 MM gun. Also a few of the Pz IVe tanks with heavier armor. Our tankers are as happy as a lark with the news. Also heard that our observers will be mech now so they can get around the battle field to direct the artty better and more accurate on sight observations.
Just got our orders we are to move our units towards Bir Hacheim and once again kick the asses of the british next month. With the new equipment and better guns of our tanks we feel the Matildas may be less of a factor this time. Also maybe we can get a better chance of laying in some shells on them from our artty with the new mech observers doing a better job. We shall see in less then a month we must be set up by then and on the move by 5/6/41.
