Supported resolutions

Post by karto »

Hi... I'm really looking forward to CoTA (although I had hoped to see it done before christmas [;)] ). Just recently I stumbled upon a big pile of gold to buy me a 24" widescreen LCD (OK - I sold my firstborn to the bank), and I have been dreaming about playing CoTA on this beast. Optimally it plays in the native resolution (1920*1200) but any kind of widescreen resolution would be nice.
So - what are the supported resolutions for CoTA?

karto,

COTA can be played on any monitor capable of displaying 1024 x 768 pixels or greater. Where your screen size is larger in any dimension it will simply extend the side bar and increase the battlemap. You can specify a specific screen format as well. So you'll have no problems.

We appreciate your patience. We're working flat out here at the moment. We want to ensure a robust product and when you have one as big as ours it can take time to wrap things up. But it is looking good.

1920x1200 rocks ... I got myself a 23" Apple panel last Xmas, would have gone 30" but no PC based video cards available with Dual-Link DVI (still!) ... you will be in love ... reading manuals with two full pages on screen at once while you sit across the room [:D]

MMmmhhh... </drooling>

You do know how to build anticipation [:D]
As much as I would like CoTA yesterday, it deserves all the love you give it. It is rare for me to look forward to giving someone money! [:'(]

Occassionally, I would launch HTTR at 1600x1200 (all you need to do is this in a short cut):

E:\Games\HTTR\HTTR.exe /resolution 1600x1200

I think I once tried 2048x1536, but it didn't work.

Although I couldn't read anything at 1600x1200, it was great for producing big overview maps.

I am running COTA at 1024x768 on a 21" CRT which suits my eyes just fine. :)

---

Maybe one day when I have an array of four UXGA LCD monitors, I'll bug Dave to make the map windowed so that I can have different portions of the battle displayed on different monitors. That should keep Dave busy coding until about 2010!

:)

Don't do that, it'll count as UI work instead of AI work and if I'm still around it'll probably be dumped on me [:(]

MarkShot,

I would be interested to learn how you exactly do that. I added the comment "/resolution 1600x1200" to my shortcut, but HTTR always asks me to select one of the three originally supported resolutions and uses them afterwards.

Thanks,

The comment field is a don't care. It is the target field you have to modify. You have to edit past the double quote (") if I'm not wrong.

I hope this helps,

I just hope they support my resolution to play this in the very near future. [:D]

Markshot,

Thanks a lot - my problem was that I installed HTTR in the default folder, which is "Highway to the Reich" and not "HTTR". If that's the case, it does not work to remove the quotation marks from the "Target" entry.
I simply changed the name of the folder now (and of course the "Start in" entry in the shortcut) and I hope this doesn't create any problems (e.g. with registry entries or the like).

Wow, HTTR looks great in 1600x1200, which is the native resolution of my 20' LCD. Thanks again!

Chuck,

Glad you were able to run HTTR at the native resolution.

I don't expect that renaming the directory should break anything other than the default location if you attempt to patch or trying to uninstall the game.

Why should I ever uninstall it? [:D]
