The Cautionaries up on Spooky's
The "Cautionaries" Scenario is now available on Spooky's web site
http://mathubert.free.fr/main_content.htm
Here is the readme file ...
"The Cautionaries" a WPO Scenario
May 1922 through Nov 1923
During the period from 1921 to 1922 the WPO plan was modified to focus on logistical considerations.
Thus this new plan included the concepts of establishing succcessive bases as a part of the
advance across the Pacific. The first base would be in the Marshalls ( Eniwetok ), the second
base would be in the Carolines ( Truk ). Then the advance to the Philippines would proceed
from there.
This scenario is based on the stock scenario 7 with the following changes:
1. Scenario start date is the same 31 May 22, but end date is set to 11 Nov 1923. This would
be the next US presidential elecction and the thought is that by then, if the strategy is working,
the administration will be re-eleccted and continue the strategy to victory. US wins. However,
if the strategy is not working ( Japanese have VP victory in the game ), then a new
administration would repudiate the strategy and seek terms. Japan wins and gets to keep
the Philippines.
2. No ships have been removed. Three types of ships were added for both sides, MSW, PC and CVE.
In case the players decide to pursue major minning campaigns, we wanted to make sure both
had enough minesweepers to survive. Also we wanted to have this scenario designed for both sub
"DOCTRINE OFF" and thus added the PC to help players protect their merchant ships. And at least the
USN had specific plans to convert merchant ships to carriers, so we wanted to include that. And
decided to give the Japanese the benefit of the doubt, though their convversions run 3 months
behind the US ones ( in the game ).
3. All forces and bases other than US and Japanese have been removed. This focuses the players
on the areas both sides planners expected to fight during this period.
4. The Japanese supply and fuel generation daily totals have not been changed. However, due to
the WPO planners correct identification that Japanese weakness was her dependence on overseas
goods, we have relocated much of the supply and fuel generation overseas. A lot of it is now in
Korea, China and Port Arthur. But we also created 3 "nuetral bases" Singapore, Palembang and
Tolobali. These ports should only be used by the Japanese player for loading supply and fuel.
Neither side can move ground units into these bases.
5. The IJA OB has been modified. The Japanese at this period had 21 Divisions which had in them
42 Brigades. We have put all the Brigades in the DIvisions. This makes the divisions larger,
but removes the separate Brigades that were in the stock game. Also all divisions were
moved to their home garrison areas.
6. All major ground units on both sides have been reset to be in restricted commands, but the
Japanese have been given 20,000 PP and the US 15,000 PP which allows both to release
massive amounts of forces for the war.
7. A house rule should also be in effect, limiting the US player to making no moves on turn 1.
He may spend PP and form TFs, but should not load and move anything. He may start
building installations.
8. To install the scenario, all the *.bmp files should be placed in the ART folder. All other
files should be placed in the SCEN folder. No existing files are overlaid. This is strictly
a new scenario.
9. A few bases have been modified to represent their status more closely relative
to the timeframe we are modeling in this scenario.
If you have any problems PM me on the Matrix forum, where my ID is

We hope you enjoy "Cautionaries" !!! And apologies in advance, this scenario has only
been tested for PBEM play, and I strongly suspect will only work for PBEM play.

RE: The Cautionaries up on Spooky's
Then again, how many folks are going to stick to a 4-year game? 2 turns a day, we're talking 2 years of gameplay.
Show me a single screenshot from 1925 or 1929 (not from Clash of Titans), anyone? ^_^

WPO has only been out for a few months. In 2 years, you will see AARs in the AAR forum that are two years old. But yes, I agree that most people won't play for that long.

I guess I whined long enough and so they appeared :p
It's very hard to fight IJN without destroyer flotilla leaders... In my AAR I have to send DDs in groups of 20-30 - and even that doesn't help. And all because they're floating targets at 15,000+ yards...

Ssshhhhtt, dont suggest tricks to String!! [:D]
Well some CA and CL will help USA in the first months... since they really have nothing bigger than a DD to throw against Japan... (well, however my BB are arriving! [8D]).
Don't know if this has been fixed, since I reported it before but got no answer, DM Razel (or Razal, don't remember) is bugged, she does't reload mines at any ports (whil other DM/ML does)...

She doesn't load at any port (don't remember seeing that one. Sorry, been kinda busy lately).
If she truly is bugged, its probably because she is Filipino, not American. Will investigate.

Must at least be a different class - I haven't had time to check ... release 1.5 of Cautionaries will apply the new 1.2 device files ( but not class, ship or location ) .. but I'll investigate this also and post the fix if I find it first !

The Rizal is a standard Wickes DM class, but she is Philippino, where the others of her type are USN.

Must be more than that - the version of Cautionaires I have doesn't contain any USN CA/CL !?
( and to my knowledge they haven't ever been added !? )
Vlad do they show up in your version ?

But why on earth aren't there any US cruisers in it then? I know they didn't have many, but they had a few, and those few could be very very useful

I don't see any CLs in 1.4 or 1.5... Can we have class/ship ##s?
1.5 is ready =)
Changelog:
- USN carrier aviation fixed.
- Remaining Canadian/Australian reinforcements removed.
- Classes 135-136 no longer downgrade to class 131.
- IJN Mishima spelling fixed.
- WPO 1.20 torpedo dud rates imported. German and American torpedoes took the hardest hit.
- Class 84 had its mines correctly reduced to 72.
- Classes 35-36 had their torpedo tubes correctly downgraded to 45cm.
Potential improvements in 1.6 depending on the outcome of 1.5:
- American cruisers at a cost of reducing American Atlantic battleships.
- Pre-WWI IJN destroyers
- ASW upgrades for many IJN ships.
For those in a rush, PM me and I'll email you the files.
For those who can wait, I'll ask Spooky to upload them on his site.

The MLs are loading mines from a MLE in Manila. The MLE is an USN one. It will only load USN MLs. [MLE will only load mines on ships of the same nationality. This has been changed in WITP, but do not believe change has been made to WPO.]

I guess the quick fix would be changing ship 3434's nationality to USN
