Lost...what to do...?

Post by TheElf »

It all started when my PBEM hit a bump in the road. "We have a potential problem" Said Chez. The problem? Southern Area Army HQ fell victim to the disappearing units bug. Can it be fixed? "We'll see, Frag is going to look at it." That was two weeks ago.

Great. My only Game of War in the Pacific. Gone. A year and a half and two opponenets, all for naught it seems. The date of the game you ask? Late Dec 42'. Almost there. I played right up to he point where as the Allies, the fun was to begin.

What to do now? "Ahhh this is interesting..." I found solace in the one good thing left on the Forum....The THREAD. The Thread provided warmth when there was only cold. Light when there was darkness. Meaning when life became meaningless...now...it is gone...what is left? Other peoples AARs? Art for a game I will never see? I think not. A new game? Start over anew? No. Not until the CHS is complete...so what to do.....??

Go out, get pinned and chase skirts.[:D] I know how frustrating it is as I've lost numerous games to this it's not funny. Actually, it is shameful. But, I keep trying again. Call me stupid.

1. Read a good book - Shattered Sword[:D]

2. Play the Coral Sea Scenario twice, once as allied and then as axis. Add you VP points together to determine who won.

3. Play the Demolition derby version Jap vs AI and see how many points you can get in the first three days.

4. Find a girl, settledown, take it easy.....

Maybe someone else is willing to take over the game. Can't hurt to ask in the opponent's forum.

Well you've given me stuff to do - this Soviet OOB thing is a monster! [X(][:'(]

Shattered Sword is good. The Falling Sand Game (http://chir.ag/stuff/sand/) also keeps me busy.

I have your P-75 in game, btw. Been gone for a while.

If your game is hosed....i'd start anew. If pace is a concern, try 2day turns and/or start at a later date. I'm personally weary of the 12/7 start and like to start in 5/42 after all the tedious Japan-work (SRA/BURMA/PI) is done and one can really get to the what if parts.

I lost Burma Area army in one AI game but was able to continue.

Why didn't you go back couple days before the unit disappeared?

As Oleg said, go back a few days to about a week...

Mark and I had this happen recently where I lost the Imperial guards due to teleportation to PM. It took a couple tries and manipulating the units orders, but it finally worked!
To get our turn to work correctly, I had to halt the IG (it was half way through it's move) along with all the other units in the hex. I then ordered my other units to move but kept the IG in a defensive position.
It may be a frustrating replay of multiple turns, but it'll work! [:D]

O.

We have tried going back to the days before the unit completely disappeared. The first attempt did not work, and Frag thought it might be a missing pointer, from which there is no recovery.

Chez and I are going to try going further back and see if we can recover.

Still and all it leaves one with a sense of emptiness. This friggin game has been such a large part of my daily activities for the last 18 months...if you count UV it goes back even further...

Was this the game where Chez stated that replacements stopped working with the HQ's disapearance? Was Frag able to confirm that that was in fact happening?

Yeah, it was.

I just sent Ian's new turn. I'm going to see if I can't find a way to save it. I figure that even if I lose it again, I'll just carry on until it becomes impossible to do so. I received no replacements, including aircraft during the few turns we played after it was lost the first time so I wouldn't expect any different if it happens again.

Who knows though, maybe this time we'll get lucky. I want to keep this game going because it's proving a heck of a challenge. I don't mean any disrespect to the the previous player but his deployments were definitely not in keeping with HQs and are scattered from Suva to the Aleutians with Russia active. I'm finding that Soviet planes are no push overs!
