Copies of CWiF

Post by Mziln »

Please be advised again.

Matrix Games has advised the people that were helping in the CWiF Beta that it is no longer an open product.

Matrix Games has requested that we no longer distribute copies of CWif.

I am still complying with Matrix Games request and will not distribute copies of CWiF.

Please do not ask for a copy.

I do too, sorry.

The MWiF game is now far away enough from CWiF that CWiF is no longer representative of how MWiF will work and look.
So it is bad for Matrix to have CWiF distributed, and have people have a wrong opinion about MWiF.

I still have the CWiF program as well and am still actively playing with it.

I do respect the Matrix wishes and I do not distribute the program although I believe that anyone who has seen or used the CWiF program can't wait to get the completed game that Matrix is developing.

I think of CWiF as a little taste of great things to come when a complete computer WIF game becomes available and personally I think that if CWiF, although incomplete and with some bugs, were still available, it would increase the Matrix sales of MWiF.

That's incredible that Matrix Games requested do no distribute the Beta version, instead Matrix Games should finally develop and distribute the final version. We are waiting since ten years.......

I've been waiting that long too. I now have the opportunity to make it happen. You might want to read the Directory at the top of this forum for a perspective on what I have been doing for the past 6 months.

Last year someone answered to my complains about the release of CWiF admitting that in 2006 (spring) it will be definitively relased. Now it "make to happen". Dear Shannon I perfectly know your personal efforts to realize the final version of CWiF......but spring is coming......and we will see.........

I should note that the purpouse of CWiF was testing, not playing. While playing became indeed possible in CWiF's last instances I should say that we (the testers/players) have no rights to that software and should not complain (I tested, lost my last copy of CWiF when I switched computers a while back and don't complain now for not having it) that Matrix has asked that everyone stop distributing the software (which was never legal to do in the first place).

And most of us have waited for a long time to see a computer version of WiF appear. Right now things look to be advancing quite well. I for one won't mind if I have to wait a year longer, after all, what's one year after 10 years of waiting (not quite that long actually).

I know of no such announcement. Perhaps you are thinking of:
I give David Heath at Matrix Games weekly status reports on things accomplished for the past week and things planned for the next week. As I promised before, I will post monthly summaries of those status reports in the forum. Since this thread has been started, I guess this is as good a place as any. My first report to the forum will be at the end of this week (the end of July). But to answer the question directly, we have MWIF scheduled for release as a download in the spring of 2006.

There are some who say that degree of optimism just proves I am out of my mind. Actually, I am shooting for early spring 2006, but even I concede that depends on a whole lot of things not going wrong. If the date does drift, I will let you know here. In any event, I will be keeping you informed as to progress every month right up to the game's availability.

which I wrote on July 27, 2005?

A 4 month delay in getting the graphics guy started might be considered "something going wrong."

Patience is easier if you PBEM

Post by Cheesehead »

Waiting for the completion of MWiF is much easier to do if you play PBEM using Vassal or Cyberboard. I am currently playing my 2nd and 3rd games using Vassal and it is working wonderfully. One of my games is in the middle of J/A '42. We started play in September 05, so while it is slow going, it is not too bad. I started a face-to-face game at the same time and we are only in S/O '41 so my PBEM game is actually progressing faster. If you need to know more look into the Vassal forum just below the WiF Forum on this site. If you want to find opponents, I have been successful on this forum and on the Yahoo WiFdiscussion forum. It sure beats solitaire.

I agree with John here, playing by PBEM works with Cyberboard and Vassel. But I am really anticipating MWIF for an even better way of playing, PBEM.

Hey Nicklas

I'll be ready for a rematch when MWiF comes out...and by then I'll be able to offer you a better game. I've learned a lot since you wiped me off the board last summer! [:)]
