Trouble Laying Mines

Post by Bill Durrant »

I have MLs and DMs at separate places who just won't lay their mines. No Flt or fire damage. Nil Ops points used. Set to mine warfare mission. Full up with mines. Retirement allowed. Undocked from base.

What am I missing?

You may need to assign the Minelayers to a different home base. They will not lay mines at their home base. I believe this is so you can send them forward with the mine complement. I had the same issue in WITP.

Like I'm laying mines at say Manilla ... minesweepers really based at Manilla but I set home port to Pescadores ... set speed to cruise ... reload mines in Manilla and move one hex out in patrol mode. then next turn set to retire and plot move to Manilla ... following turn they are sitting in Manilla having laid their mines ... I then start the process over again ...

Okay I understand but it seems strange the game was programmed this way

I usually do the opposite. I think this is so you can send ships loaded with mines foward without them laying their mines where you do not want them laid. In this game that is important because of the very limited number of ports that can resupply mines.

It would be nice if there was some sort of toggle that you could use to cause the mines to be laid at the destination hex rather than play games with patrol status and homebases, but it works and is just a minor inconvenience.

I would rather they worked on a scout mission or shadow mission than fix this:-)
