CTD/Windows Reboot

Post by gatow1 »

Hello,
I have just bought this game and have tried everything to keep it working.

The problem is that I can play the game for several minutes and then it crashes and reboots the computer. It nearly always happens just as 1/505th begins its assault on Groesbeek.

I have updated all the drivers/dx etc but still no joy even in safe mode.

I did disable my onboard sound card Cmedia and that solved it in the fact that the game still ctd.

Now I have installed it also onto my laptop and the game runs but at the same point it just drops to desktop and i am able to click it back into play.

I have v2.2.86.

I had a problem like this but with WitP and WPO recently. I added some more RAM (to 1GB) and it has solved the problem.

I have a gig and half already.

I will try taking them out one by one.

Thanks for the idea.

Just another thought - if it was bought by digital download you may want to try a re-download in case something went wrong there. Also try going to one of the fansites who may have more info.

Hi gatow 1
I'm afraid the developer is off line at the moment so you may have to wait a few days for his input. However, I can't recall a similar problem so apart from taking the advice that others have given, I can only suggest that you have something unique in your set-ups that do not agree with the game. Sorry to be so unhelpful but no doubt others will throw in suggestions.
Cheers

gatow1,

Sorry for the delay, but we've just moved home/office and this is the first opportunity I have had to get the internet connection up and running.

As Ray says, we have not had any other report like this one.

Did you digitally download it? If so, uninstall the current game, re-downloading it, re-install it and get abck to me.

Otherwise then you have some incompatibility either with a peice of hardware ( sound card most likely ) or software.

Please get back to me.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

As Bill Durrant suggested, I removed my my memory chips one by one but still no joy.

As you suggest I am beginning to think it is my on-board sound card (C-Media AC97). If I disable it from the Bios and hardware list it just makes the game crash to desk top. Where as, if I have not disabled it it crashes and does a full reboot. This all happens just in the first 10 minutes of playing a battle - just when the battle commences.

On my Laptop it just drops to windows but allows me back into the game.

A friend is lending me a sound card to try and see if a named brand card works.

Other then that its a mystery.[&:]

Might want to run dxdiag and do all the tests and attach the results ... it will contain all your hardware information and driver information.

Without that kind of info, just guessing in the dark.

Other things you can try to rule out your machine, download something like 3DMARK and let it kick the snot out of your machine ... sometimes there are issues that only surface when machines are put under heavy load (power supply or heat)

Hello,

As suspected it was a sound fault. My friends soundcard worked perfectly fine no CTD or DTD what so ever.[:'(]

I am now kicking jerries butt - till I've played all the scenarios as the Allies and then it is the Germans time to kick butt.[:D]

I would like to thank you all for your suggestions and help.[:D]

your very satisfied
