Superbowl Release

Post by zowee77 »

Erik,

Anyway that Maximum Football may be released prior to or just after the Superbowl? I was not sure if this has an impact as to when Matrix will release the game or not. If nothing else can you at least give us an update as to where you are at in the process of preparing for the release date?

I'm pretty sure they would've said something already
there's only 5 days left
These socks were made for walkin
So that's just what I'll do
One of these days these socks
Are gonna make you smell like poo

Please note: Due to our selection of engine, this game will require a modern 3D card such as the ATI Radeon or GeForce2 cards. Older cards such as the Voodoo4 and below series may not play the game properly due to their use of 3Dfx chipsets.

Am I still going to be required to upgrade my graphics card to a GeForce2 to play this game?

Is that a joke? Are you mocking the old post at the old forum?

GeForce2 is a really old card now. GeForce FX5500 series card are only $50. A used GeForce4 is even cheaper.

As far as I know, there are differing resolution and detail levels in the game, so max detail will likely require better than the GeForce 2.

We are in the home stretch, no question about it, but we are not going to make it before the weekend. Keep an eye out for a gone gold press release and it shouldn't be more than a week after that. Given the way things are going, I would say a February release is certain and likely to be by mid-February.

mbMike.

I would highly recommend upgrading to a Geforce4TI-128 or better and skipping the GF2 all together. Besides, other than ebay, I'm not even sure where you'd get a GF2.

Erik and I need to put together an "official" list of supported/non-supported hardware and that will be ready for the release.

Does anyone know if it's possible to update the video card in a Gateway Profile 4? My computer has the screen and CPU in one unit, so I'm not sure it's upgradeable.

It's got a GeForce 2 MX 400, so I figure I'm probably ok, but if upgrading is that cheap and it's doable on my machine, I'll have to look into it.

Some of these machines are upgradeable. I would contact Gateway and ask them directly. In some cases it's simply a case of changing a bios setting or changing a jumper on the mainboard. But I don't recommend that until you're familiar with doing that sort of thing.

You can still find GF2's and older cards at pricewatch and decent cards can be found for 50-100 bucks. Upgrading can be a little tricky especially with older computers so be sure to do research on you PC and the card you want before you purchase it. For instance some older PC's only have PCI slots and if you were to buy an AGP card it wouldn't fit or work in your PC so you need choose carefully.

Having a Gateway could be a problem since they were ridiculously proprietary in thier use of hardware in older machines--if it wasn't a Gateway part it wouldn't work. You could be okay but as was posted previously it's best to check with Gateway on it.

Glad to hear that release may not be too much longer. I'm crossing my fingers aswell that my GF2 can handle the game.
