Odd stats w/ fictional league

Post by DaveF »

Just noticed the 1.21 version upgrade, so I downloaded it and created a new association (2 div 6 teams, 162 games), ratings on a 1-5 scale. Starting year was 1902, set all teams to computer control and decided to let it run overnight to build up some history. I check the almanac the next day and find that in 1917, one player had these season stats:

Carlos Harris : BA: .400 HR: 118! RBI: 241!

Holy Moly - 118 HR? [&:] And that is not an anomaly - he also had seasons of 105, 92, 87, and 86 dingers, all between 1915-1919. While that's certainly an impressive feat, it also pretty much spoils any realism this league might have.

So, I'm wondering what might be the cause of this, since I haven't noticed stats this abnormal in the past. Could it be:
1) a problem with the latest version?
2) could my XML file have been hosed somehow?
3) I've never used the stat scale of 1-5 before - could there be a bug using that?
4) my previous leagues never ran for more than 10 seasons or so - could it just be a problem that occurs after multiple seasons?

In any event, I'm not planning on continuing this league. If you'd like a copy of the league files, I could send it (although this miraculous player has been long retired). Is there something I can do in the XML file to tame these extremes?
