THE EMPEROR'S LIGHTNING BOLT

PLEASE NOTE: There are two Versions of the scenario in this zip file. 001 is the easier version for beginners. 010 is a little harder for the well versed in the game.

Testers: Bruce "Recon" Hodgman, Roland Rahn, Jack Withrow, Sherman "Trip" Triplett, Massimo "Mad Italian" Rocca

Design Notes:

This scenario should be played as the Japanese. As Major Shimada (the historical commander), you have a tough task ahead. You must break through the enemy's defenses on the north side of the Slim River and force your way to the south.

Will it be enough to overcome and take the field?

Two things are important to you as Shimada. You must avoid excessive loss of tanks. They are very valuable. You must take all the objectives to have a chance at a big win. The bridge is vital to the Japanese advance.

The final issue is time. You are being pressed hard by the divisional commander to get this one at once! Leisurely advance is not an option!

Historical Background:

The 11th Indian Division had suffered one defeat after another, gradually withdrawing to the south towards Singapore. The Japanese 5th Division with tank support was relentless in its pursuit.

The 12th Brigade held tenuous defensive positions along the Slim River, guarding its bridge. But by now, there was little fight left in what remained of the unit.

The Japanese planned another flanking maneuver, while tying up the defenders, but Major Iruku Shimada, commander of a tank company formally requested permission to make a major direct assault, break through the enemy with lightning speed, secure the bridge and move rapidly south.

The gods of war smiled upon Shimada and with an attached infantry company in lorries was given permission to lead the attack. At precisely 0900 Hours, Shimada shouted his war cry of "Banzai" from the turret of his T-97 Chi-Ha tank, slammed the side of his vehicle with his samurai sword and roared
forward leading the way.

Special Note: For those who want a greater challenge, read no further until after you play the scenario.

The Outcome: (Its in the Scenario)
