American Civil War update?

Post by Tacoma »

Just wondering if anybody from 2 By 3 Games or Matrix can give an update on the American Civil War game? It appears the game will be using a modified version of the GGWAW engine? I noticed in the Development Journal (posted in Nov) that they were planning for a public announcement and some screen shots by the end of 2005... Any update will be appreciated! Sorry for getting off topic as well...[X(]

Thank you!

Work has progressed on Civil War during the past 3 several months. We're still hoping to have the game out this year. We've been busy on several projects, and we hope to have some things ready for public announcement within the next month or two. To this point we've been more focused on development than on providing the marketing materials needed to start getting people ready for the game. Although development work will continue to be the priority for the rest of the year, we realize that we need to get some things out to the public many months before release to build the interest, so you can expect to see some information and screenshots before too long.

Civil War does use the GGWaW system with the main addition being that units must be attached to leaders. The leader ratings determine the movement rates for the units, and greatly impact the fighting ability of the units (and how quickly they train from militia status to trained infantry). The game has monthly turns for a max of around 50 turns in the full war scenario. We expect each player turn to take between 10 minutes and an hour (the AI takes around 1-2 minutes to complete a turn). Players can play with historical leaders (about 1000 are rated), or play with random or semi-random leaders which scrambles certain values, and you can also choose whether to have total knowledge about the ratings or have to learn them as the leaders gain experience. Along with fog of war on (along with cav scouting rules), we think the game will provide a true Civil War experience for the players (where do I find a leader that will fight, and just how large of an army will I run into if I launch an offensive?).
All understanding comes after the fact.
