Concerns about PDS

Post by nmleague »

I have been trying to look at other ways to stop the offensive play I mention in another thread. While doing that I have run into several problems.

1. There is no way to put a player on man to man coverage vs the TE. I tired having an OLB line up on a man and play man to man, he promptly left the TE and did man to man on on of the wide recievers.

2. I tried having all the linebacks key on the HB and FB and then play man to man coverage. Two of them out on WR and played man to man.

3. I tired having all 3 LB read and then play man to man, they promtly ran out and covered the WRs leaving DL to defend vs the run, and still not coverage on the TE, FB or HB.

4. Even with one DB and 2 LB on the FL that goes in motion and a DB playing a deep zone where the FL is going, they couldnt cover him. Actually the DB and 2 LB followed him in motion until about the center and then all 3 stopped.

I guess the way FPSs play edit let you cover all recievers man to man has us spoiled.

Plalying around with the PDS again this morning. It appears that if any LB or DB have a pass coverage man to man command, they then play m2m on the WR. I have tried haveing them lineup head up on a player, or have them key the FB or HB, but if the M2m command is after that they run out to cover the WR.

This is disturbing, at every level teams have defenses with DB and LB playing m2m on TE, RB as well as the WR. I havent tried an offense with 3 or 4 WR in the game yet, but I would say there is no way to play m2m on all 3 or 4.

I hate to compare it with FPS but with that game you could assign m2m on almost any reciever, you could have bump coverage, shade under or over etc..

I also moved the DB (S) on the side of the motion play I described in other threads, to way outside, and then had him move back about 10 more yards at the snap and play deep zone. In the play it almost looks like he starts back at jog, and the Fl blows past him as if he isnt even moving.

nmleague, Deft,

Someone with more PDS knowledge will have to respond to this, but thanks for your detailed feedback. I'll bump this to the top with my reply.

I have noticed the same issues. Seems like man to man is basically for the WR on that side of the field. To cover the TE you have to use a zone command, or read. I guess this is because sometimes the TE will line up on the opposite side. Still playing around, but the read function seems to work better for safeties and LB's than a strict zone or man coverage for now.
