RHS Aircraft Testing

Post by el cid again »

Tests indicate that operational attrition is not excessive.

Testing of AAA attrition are not yet available.

Testing of air combat indicates plausable outcomes when less than 50 aircraft per side are involved. It does appear that planes with better durability survive much better than planes with low durability values. I believe that this may help the more than 50 planes per side case. Light fighters are not going to survive long enough to kill 18 times, or whatever.

Independent testing of a more radical sort indicates that planes forced to have identical weapons and durability and speed fight 1:1 - as they should. But if one plane has a 30 mph speed advantage, it gains a decisive advantage in the loss ratio - on the order of 1.8 to 1. This is stated to be an issue, but I think it is perfect modeling.

I can't vouch for the accuracy of this claim, but I've seen in television shows that US pilots felt the slight speed advantage of their Sabres/SuperSabres (I forget which) in Korea were a big deal even though the Mig-15 was believed to be more maneuverable otherwise.
