What's the deal?

Post by rich12545 »

Yesterday I sent an email to MG, haven't had a reply. Basically I stated that since there was no demo, the complexity was misrepresented, I can't trade it elsewhere because they won't transfer the license, they should offer me a trade for another Matrix game. I believe they should do this mainly because of the complexity misrepresentation. Like I said, no reply.

Today I thought, maybe I'll give it one more try to see if I can learn this game before I go to the war-historical board and try to sell it. One more time after many. So I went to download the latest patch in the members area and got "permission denied." Huh? What the f?

First they don't reply to my posts on the forum. Then they won't reply to an email. Then I can't even download the patch. I give up. Has Matrix turned into one of those companies where it's "buyer beware?" The very least they can do is communicate.

Of course I signed up in the members forum. I've downloaded the patch several times before. Each time I tried to learn the game only to end up uninstalling it in frustration.

Dude, sorry if you don't like the repetition. But that's what caused this whole problem. I'm out $40 plus printing costs plus all the stress plus all the time I've put into the game for nothing. Because they call it intermediate when it's complex. Now I'm waiting to hear from MG. I'm not holding my breath.

It's unfortunate that you've had this latest problem with downloading the patch. My experience has been that the guys at Matrix are pretty good about fixing problems like these, though sometimes it will take a few days.

I have to agree with Sarge, though, that there's little point in constantly hammering at the complexity issue. The economy's a bit tricky, yes, and there are some glitches that won't be fixed until version 1.2. The guys at Matrix have been pretty good at identifying these glitches and I'm looking forward to the patch, but we have to realize these things don't happen overnight.

All that aside, though, I've been playing wargames of various sorts for about 20 years, and I wouldn't consider this to be a complex game. I would consider it complex if it was a board game and we had to do all the calculations and keep track of all the rules ourselves (Empires in Arms is a good example of this), but in CoG we have the computer to do this for us. Like most good games, I had to play a couple of scenarios before I understood how things worked. There were some things that I didn't really pick up on until my 5th or 6th time through, but these were minor things that didn't affect the overall gameplay. I urge you to give it a couple of runs through, with different nations, to get a feel for things. I found that Turkey, Sweden, and Austria were the easiest nations to learn with.

Where did you sent the initial email to?

Did you mail to membersarea@matrixgames.com like suggested in the "general tech suport forum" regarding the 530 problem?

The download is working, so it might very well be a problem with your browser security settings or some firewall settings.
