Rob,

From your description, I have no idea. Can you provide more detail on when it fails, what the message is, etc.? Your work computer may be setup in a way that prevents this from working, for all I know. Can you post a DxDiag file?

Well I think i sort of have this figured out. MF uses my documents to store/access the database. (From what I can tell). MY IT guy has my documents pointed to a server back at the office. Which is rather inconveniant now that I am trying to install MF on my laptop and it needs my documents.

My next mission is to figure out how to point my documents back to my local drive. Wish me luck [:'(]

I think this must be some sort of profile enforcement on your computer. Maximum-Football doesn't store any databases anywhere but the game folder. Those it creates on the fly are also created in the game folder. I think that perhaps when your computer is seeing these files it's trying to do you a favour and move them to a place where they can be backed up (My Documents on a server). This is fairly typical action for companies that use enforced user profiles on Win2K & XP.

David,
I get this error while attempting to install game components. Clearly the game is trying to install something on my documents...(which is a current pain since my IT guy has mine pointed at the evil backup server.) My question is...is there anyway around this...if I don't need these files to play this game, then why is it bouncing me everytime I start to boot the game with the active x error?

I'll have to defer to Erik on this one. This looks (sounds) like something unique for the Matrix installer. None of the Maximum-Football core files are designed to go into 'My Documents'.

Rob,

This is really quite bizarre and I have no idea why it would be looking for your My Documents folder. I'll have to check on this but it's possible that something that was changed there to point that to the network is also messing up the general read the installer has on your system directory. The various game components it installs need access to your Windows System folder and the ability to register new components on your system. If this was changed, was anything else changed security-wise? I'm really not sure we'll be able to figure this one out here without a similarly configured system.

Hmm that makes some sense. I work for Arizona St University and they are very vigilante about security. Is the installer you guys using new? I am able to load and offload witp at will with out issue. Ill keep poking around. Thanks for your help.

3 days and I will be home on my gaming rig and none of this will matter...:)

Rob,

WitP doesn't need anything done as far as registering Windows components and so forth. The sub-installer that does that for M-F is where you're hitting the problem and it's all about the Windows system folder and component registration. This is the first of our games that requires this type of thing (though the Tin Soldiers games do require .NET and Managed DirectX, so they're similar), so you wouldn't have run into it before.

Back in town, plugged the laptop back into the campus (ICA) system. Installed MF and it works fine. Sooo...blame it on ASU...:).
