running it in a window instead of full screen

since this is a directx app is it possible to run it in a window instead of full screen... I'd like to be able to background it while its working in between turns and have it keep going instead of pausing.

To the best of my knowledge no, it's set to run full screen. I haven't ever been able to adjust it. If you use the ctrl/alt/esc you can minimize it and then restore but this proves to be slightly unstable at times. When Combat Leader is released I think it will be possible for it.

I am too searching way to run SPWAW 7.1 on window instead of full-screen!Win-xp is my os. If somebody has successed to do so please reply and tell us how you did it?

Everything we know about SPWAW says it cannot be run in a window. To begin with, WAW is extremely CPU intensive. The first thing I found out when my cable ISP was connected was that running WAW and the cable modem hooked up at the same time locked up the system.

You don't want to run ANYTHING in the background when you run SPWAW - if you try to do so, you are almost certainly going to have problems.

Only thing that I like to run with SPWAW window is Notepad, text file where is some random numbers. Using those when doing some own scenarios. It's just annoying to change every time between desktop and SPWAW when I need that txt file.

Edit: found that SPWAW editor and position/property editor solved my problem. Random unit positioning with random numbers is just everything for me

I'm not so sure about that. I often have MSword and Outlook open and running in the background when running spwaw. Every now and then I even have a couple of IE windows running in the back ground. I have not experianced any problems at all. I also have a cable modem and always have it connected. My computer is no slouch, but its hardly a highend machine. Perhaps it depends on which version of windows your running. I'm running XP.

JamesR - You might be able to get away with running other apps in the background in WinXP. I just recently added WAW to my WinXP rig, so I should qualify the statement: I have never been able to run anything in the background with WAW active under Win98SE.

This might also depend on how much RAM memory the user has on their system.

There might be ways to do it, though, perhaps we can learn something here.

You can definately run other programs while SPWAW is running in 98se.

But it would be cool to get it running in a window.

I had a quick look into this and couldn't find a way.

I think the difference is that an app such as Notepad or Excel doesn't really do much except take up memory space until you start using it. If you can cool switch out of WAW and use the other apps, fine, my experience has been that one or two Alt + Tab and back to an active WAW scenario is asking for trouble.

I guess like a lot of things, it is possible to run other apps while WAW is active - I don't do it, especially if I have been using the Editor. If ya'll can do it with no problems, more power to yez.

No question, though, what happened when I tried to do this with the cable "modem" running. WAW locked up the system after a minute or two of active play. This is quite likely due to using USB for cable connection - does the first initial in USB stand for "Useless"?
