Sound Probs/Help?

I have installed both the full CD and the CD lite version on my computer at home. The intro video and credits roll with great sound, but then there is none in the game. No clicks when a selection is made, no soundtrack, and no unit FX. I installed the same package on another computer at work, the sound was fine and (obviously) added a whole dimension of involvement and playability. At any rate I am out of ideas. I have an AWE64D with Altec Lansing cube speakers w/subwoofer. I have installed, uninstalled and reinstalled and rebooted until I am blue in the face. Still no sound. Even without it, the game is simply awesome. But with it...well, you know.
